Bought this device, and installed it fairly easily because of my prior experience with installing 12 components in cars and boats... Wiring instructions included are not good at all. If you buy this item, the bare wire and the black wire go to ground from the power cable coming out of the antenna, and the other wire goes to your power source. I installed mine to work with my two Lowrance HDS9 touch units, and discovered that when you turn on the weather overlay feature over your chart, and you activate the curser on the Lowrance unit when in chart mode, the Lowrance unit freezes up. Apparently this is an issue Lowrance knows about and is supposed to be releasing a software update to fix this, but until that happens, you have to turn the overlay feature off to keep your sonar/gps unit from freezing up on you and rebooting if you are zooming in and out of the chart. When it is working, the features are really nice and can help you be a better fisherman, and help you be safe by seeing storm systems, lightning, etc. Sirius is also offering rebates with qualifying programming packages. Mine is a $99 rebate for buying a 1 yr plan, so you can essentially get the unit for free if you sign up for a 1 year plan with Sirius. Also, you can suspend your subscription during times of the year when you are not fishing or using the device, so its nice to have that feature too from Sirius. Overall, just know about the above and you will be happy with the device. I am sure Lowrance will put out the software update for my unit soon and it will operate flawlessly.

I love having this option on my boat. I get good use out of the LWX-1 in four areas. 1-Wind Bar, on a windy day, I will bring up the wind bars to show how the sind is affecting another area of the lake I am considering going to. 2-Weather Alerts, tells me the degree of danger approaching with actual 'Warnings'. 3-Cloud movement to show me direction of possible storms. 4-Music even with a cheap easy to hook up speaker

Bought this as part of a complete upgrade on my Lake Michigan boat going to an all Lowrance system (radar, MFD). I installed the unit, activated the service and it just worked flawlessly. Once the network detected that this unit was installed it auto-configured to use it as intended. Music started flowing from the satellites as did weather map overlays right on the maps on the chart plotter. Changing music venues and seeing weather overlays was flawless.
Also installed the Lowrance 3G radar dome. Same results. It auto configured and put the radar overlay on the maps just the same as the weather. This unit is much more accurate than the old conventional radar that I removed and also has safer operation with less radiation issues than the conventional radars. I see other water craft out to 15 miles. Supposed to be good to 23 but I have not yet had the need to go out that far so can not comment on the range to the stated limits.

A:
The signal that comes from the LWX antenna has to be processed through the Lowrance SonicHub. This will also be hooked up to one of the HDS displays so you can actually control the Sirus radio itself. The SonicHub has an amp built in to it so you can play through your speakers or use the aux out and send it to another sound system that may already be installed.A:
You will have to have a stereo.*A standard 3.5 mm stereo jack easily interfaces with onboard sound systems when you include radio with your SIRIUS® subscription for stereo-quality music and sports including NFL, NASCAR and college football broadcasts.

I realize that a subscription to Sirius would also be required. But, is there any other hardward required other than the LWX-1 Sirius Satellite Weather/Radio Antenna, a Sonic Hub and a HDS-5?Answers
A:
It requires at least one Lowrance HDS unit.A:
Yes, you will need the nema2k starter kit.A:
Need the NEMA 2000 network too.A:
I discovered the answer to my own question. To hear the audio, one will also need to purchase a Headphone/Computer Speaker Extension Cord and an Audio Y-Cable. These plug respectively into the interface of the LWX-1 and the satellite (L) and (R) inputs on the Sonic Hub. The provided instructions are not clear on this.1 of 1
