I installed this unit with an HDS 8 Generation 2. Installation went well, butI did fabricate a mount bracket for the tranducer to prevent drilling new holes in my boat. I read all of the materials provided with these units and watched a lot of the information listed on youtube before use, so I had a good experience when I started on the water. My secound trip was to Lake Russell, GA fishing for Spotted Bass. I wanted to try these units out in the flooded timber found in several coves around Russell. As I entered the first cove, I selected the Structure Option to "Look" at some of the trees around the boat lane cleared when this lake was flooded. I was amazed to find not only trees, but several areas where brush piles was made, all of the holding bait and bass. Then I switched to the down scan option with sonar and what an education. The detail provided between these two screens is great. I especially liked the images produced at deeper depths where larger spots hang out. After marking several fish, I got on the trolling motor and used a drop shot rig under a Lowrance 525 to place the worm in their face...instant success. I knew from using the downscan option that the fish were holding @ 22 feet. My 525 is set to trace the worm and weight down to the inch. I dropped the bait down and felt like Arron Martin and Edwin Evers. SOme of the biggest surprizes came while scanning bridge pillings. I now know why I was losing so many jigs. These units are great. I wish my 525 was a little older. I would replace it with an HDS 7 or 8. If you fish a lot, these units are well worth the money

I've had my LSS-1 on 2 different boats now, mounted directly beneath my lower unit, and have had absolutely zero interference issues.Top 250 Contributor

Ive had the lss-1 for over a year now and have had no issues "yet" with the outboard interfering with the side scanning or down scan.Answers

you can use it on both at the same time. You can run up to 3 at a time with cables run from sidescan unit.Top 250 Contributor

Will the structure scan transducer shoot through the hull or does it require external mounting?
Answers
A:Â
they make one now that will shoot through the hull.A:Â
There is no option to mount the transducer through the hull. In the instructions, the options are trolling motor or hull. While I can't say for 100% it wouldn't work, I get the impression that it won't based on the lack of a thru-hull mounting option.

Downscan Specifications: Max Depth: 100 ft (800kHz); 300 ft (455kHz). Would not be good for depths over 300ft.
