Excellent Product I bought this device 6 months ago and have been very impressed with it from the moment I took it out of the box. It has a ton of features and great expandability. Salmon fishing means fishing in salt water and at depths of 100' plus and I was doubtful the downscan and sidescan would be very effective in these conditions but I've found good definition to about 150' on the downscan and just the other day found a school of salmon 75' to the side of the boat. I marked them with a waypoint, came about and boom picked up 3 fish. As I learn more about what's on the screen my results continue to improve. I love my HDS 7. July 24, 2014
Small unit - many features I bought the HDS 7 last season and use it every time I go out on the boat. There are so many features and I am pleased to see that with simple software updates, Lowrance allows existing customer to extend the product with services and components. Since buying the unit I have added Sirius weather and audio, as well as the wifi hotspot, so I can control this unit from anywhere on the boat, even from on the dock. When anchored out I can now simply open my iPad from the luxury of my bed and check that we are still on the hook, check the weather, switch on the audio, see if the fish are biting - even plan the days navigation. A lot of features for one small unit. Now if I could connect the unit to the internet through my phone, it would open up another whole new world of opportunities.... July 24, 2014
Overall great unit Easier to use than non-touch model. Exellent features. Priced competitevly but, that needs to come down. The big problem is updating. I have no idea why Lowrance puts the updates in a "zip" file when the unit does not recognise a "zip" and the file has to be transformed (by the user) to read .exe to load into the unit. What's up with that? The fact that the "spotlight scan ' doesen't require a separate pole mounted to the trolling motor shaft is a plus and shows more use of technology. July 24, 2014
Down scan has changed my fishing success Good for up to 120 feet of water. Not bright enough for bright days. Excellant for night fishing. User manuals really stink, but the tech support is excellant. Price is reasonable. I now know the difference between kelp and fish on the finder. My fishing success has improved after i got the down scan and finally have learned to get the best out of it. My friends are jealous so now i dont have any problems finding fishing partners July 24, 2014

Answer this Question

The HDS-7 Gen2 Touch is capable of connecting to different Autopilot's through either NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, to provide a GPS input. We would recommend that you contact Garmin in order to determine the requirements their autopilot has, and then contact Navico Technical Support so they can verify that everything lines up.

I have a Sea Ark aluminum boat and want to know if there are more than one transducer? Will the thru-hull transducer work with an aluminum hull boat?

Hi, thank you for your question. The HDS-7 Gen2 Touch Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter with Insight USA™ will include the skimmer transom mount 50/200 kHz transducer (Housing Material: Plastic). A plastic transducer is recommended on aluminum or steel-hulled boats to avoid potential electrolysis problems. Typically, on aluminum boats, mounting the transducer between two ribs works best. On all hulls, mount the transducer at least one foot away from the engine's lower unit. This helps to prevent air bubbles from the transducer interfering with the propeller.
