Bought the closeout HDS-5X to go on the trolling motor. Price was good, but when I registered for the warranty Lowrance listed the unit as April, 2011, eliminating over a year of warranty because it was a closeout. The screen is not bright enough for full sunlight, but the images and settings are ok. Obviously I need a DSI and side imaging unit combo instead, but price is a limiting factor. I was going to return the unit, but its going to be a bridge until a reasonably priced DSI/sidescan unit comes out. Plus the unit had a $50 rebate.

HDS5x is a great sonar only unit. It has all the same function as my HDS 5, without the GPS of course. The HDS 5x color display shows up very well in sun light. My structure scan (LSS-1) works awesome with this unit.

Much like the other reviews it's great the 2weeks total I've used it but just out of warranty and the thing don't work at all. It is the unit, checked power etc. for $62.00 Lowrance will look at it or sell me a new discounted one for $312.00. Worst buy ever. Bic lighter of depth finders.

Can I replace a Lowrance X135 with the new HDS 5 without changing size or Transducer or power connections.
Details:Â
I am also wondering before I purchase, Can and will the HDS 5 interchange with the current and original Lowrance X135. Size and connection points are what i am interested in as I would rather not make the fish finder location larger or make another mounting location. Fit right back where I have taken the X135 from the deck of the bow. looking for assistance before I spend for something that would niether connect properly or is larger then the X135Answers

The Transom-mount transducer will work but the power cabel from the X135 will not fit the HDS 5x unit.Answers

This is just a fish finder and does not have a map. You will need the HDS 5 Fishfinder/GPS Cahrtplotter (38-532-262-00).Answers

The temp. pops up on mine automatically when the screen comes on. Go into the page menu and see if you have it turned off. Also do you have it hooked up to the right transducer? Some transducers dont have a temp. probe built in.Answers
A:Â
Unfortunately mapping is not transferable from one unit to another. When connected together by the NMEA network you will share waypoints between one another. When connected by Ethernet then the units can share SONAR between on another.Answers

The HDS-5X can obtain GPS information from a networked unit that has GPS. This information is limited to things like position, speed and bearing/heading. This will allow the HDS-5x to be able to display Speed Over Ground on the screen and other GPS related information however it is all in a digital format.
