Yes you can. You would need to get a NEP-2 Network Extension Port to connect multiple units.

My understanding is that 50 KHz will give slightly better sonar readings in deeper water (over 100 feet)

Staff Answer
A:
If purchasing Dual Frequency or Dual Search, units running at 83/200 kHz will be best for freshwater and inshore saltwater anglers. Offshore anglers should opt for units with a 50/200 kHz configuration.

Most of the sonar units that we sell accessories for operate at 200 kHz (kilohertz). Some are dual-frequency capable, meaning they can use both 50 and 200 kHz transducers. And a few new models are dual-search capable, allowing for both 83 and 200 kHz operation. Typically, high frequency (200 or 192 kHz) sonar units provide the best resolution and definition of structure and targets. They excel at showing minute details of the underwater world. 50 and 83 kHz frequencies have much greater depth penetration capability, but show less definition.

As the wording says, "basemap". The Insight USA is more detailed. But if you want real detail and better close inland views such as upstream rivers, channels, and other small bodies of water leading into the bays and major bodies of water, go with the Navionics Platinum Map cards. I bought the $200. version for the Texas / Louisiana coastal area.

YES. I doubt that any brand unit sold nowadays would not include nmea 2000. The HDS7 uses the nmea connector for your choice of 0183 or 2000 which is selectable in the units features.

The units have the insight USA which is reasonably detailed. For the greatest available detail, check the Navionics Platinum Chart Cards. The web site provides the sections covered and the name and map card number.

The maps that are included with this unit are Insight USA® mapping or Enhanced US basemapping. Insight USA® has expansive coverage of lakes across the continental U.S. The unit does have 2 SD card slots that you could use to load Lowrance's Nautic Insight Mapping or Navionics maps in order to get coastal coverage.

Lowrance with insight maps has exceptional map detail. For somewhat better information, Navionics sells map cards for specific areas such as the east coast, gulf coast, and, west coast at a cost of about $200. as opposed to the full coverage card (several areas at about $400.

The default setting is usually sufficient for most users. There is not actually a "best" setting. The customer should try out different settings to find the best setting for their use and water/bottom conditions.

A:
Since you say "the transducer that came with the unit," you probably have a standard 83 / 200 KHz sonar transducer. The 83 is for viewing deeper water while the 200 setting is best suited for shallower water (100 feet or less). An additional transducer for downscan / sidescan can can be used at the same time for incredible bottom views. If you didn't buy the "bundle package" when you bought the unit, you would have to buy the additional downscan /sidescan transducer.
