I bought this Handheld to use when I fish out of other boats during tournaments..I have 2 lowrance units on my boat so I wanted something that would be compaitible with my current chips..
The unit seems to acquire satellites well but you cannot see the screen in the daylight..I tried adjusting the backlighting but it didn't help..The mapping is a waste of money if you can't see it on the water during the day...Even when I crawled under my console it was tough to read...
I will probably take the unit back it is worthless to me if I can't read the mapping...

This is a great handheld unit. The Fishing Hot Spots maps are a real plus! It does say it comes "preloaded" with those maps (to me, meaning that the SD slot would then be available for a card and the maps would be in the unit itself), but the SD card actually just comes with the unit. Overall, though, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Being Lowrance i figured it to be a good product. i purchased a navionics map chip for it and you can't overlay the navionics map with the built in map. Apparently they want you to use a FHS map. What good is it if you cant put icons down on your map chip

There is no temperature sensor so it cannot read temp,,.,.Screen is hard to read I would stay away from this unit

No, this item won't do that for you. It's a GPS where you can mark waypoints and see fishing maps and such. What you are looking for is a sonar/fish finder type of graph. In order to know the water temperature, you're going to need something that's actually in the water "reading" it.As far as working in the Caribbean - it should work anywhere. What you might want to find out, though, is what maps are available (and the quality of them) for the areas you want to fish.
