I bought the Elite 7. Have it in a t-top metal box. Had to buy the point one antenna at 35% of the cost of the device! Had to buy a pile of expensive adapters and cables. Installed it. Then you have to configure the unit by driving in 390 degree circle to get the GPS to acquire. After each outing on the Potomac River I take the unit out. Each time I have to re-configure the unit. Pain in the ARSS. Even still the unit loses it's GPS signal frequently. Was on river at night and switch to night mode. Then the next day it stayed on the night mode. Knowing these units I hit power button briefly then toggled to turn up the light. Never worked. I spend 35 minutes with a towel over the unit to get it dark enough to figure this out. Should reset to normal every time you tune it on. Does not. Then they declined me on the re-bate. Sent it in, but there is a drop dead date. you would think that as a Captain they might help me out- they said tough luck buddy. Never again a lowrance. They just don't get it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Valamar Lowrance Elite 7 Fish Finder
I purchased the Lowarance Elite 7 Fishfinder less than 2 weeks ago - the installation and setup was a breeze. Had it on the water the next day and it worked great. I was very pleased with the device. The second trip out was not as good. I was in the middle of the Potomac River shut the machine off to save the battery. When I turned it back on an hour later it was locked at the Display screen. "Lowrance Elite" - I called the Lowrance Customer support number and they were closed (M-F Only). It was a Sunday - You would think they would have a customer service number - most people boat on the weekends. I called Bass Pro shop and their experts helped me - I would have been stuck without them. The manual I got with the finder was not helpful at all. I called Lowrance the next day and they were not able to tell me why the machine locked up. It took 5 hard reboots to get it reset. (Power off the finder, Hold the + - buttons and press and release the Power button while holding the + - buttons until you see the Map - then let go. On the downside - the Hard Reboot lost all of my waypoints and other settings.

The unit should come with cd to walk you through all the setups. There is way to much guess work to get thru the system. The user book is a waste of time, it doesn't tell you how to get from a to z. The book tell you to buy miro sd card, but not what size. You don't know until you buy the wrong size and put it into the slot. This isn't my first gps unit, been using them for about 20 years. Best guess, it 's going to take several months to get it right. By then it's outdated and I will have to buy a new one!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Ballbearing1969 too much clutter
when I operate the Elite 7 HDI with factory defaults, my screen is full of clutter, on a crystal clear lake in 30 ft of water, it looks like a snow storm on the screen. I can turn down the sensitivity, but the videos I have seen all say it should be left on automatic.
this unit is too complicated. it should work right out of the box with a viewable screen. you should not have to play around with all of these adjustments.
the owners manual is pitiful, they should at least have a cd to give instructions on what all of these features are, and how to set it properly.
