First off, I've always been a Humminbird guy for several reasons. The Humminbirds have a brilliant image, they have dual beam sonar, and I like the layout of the units. I purchased this Lowrance because it was on sale, and I've got to say I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I recently used to while trolling for Lake Trout in northern NH. I could clearly see the ball, as well as the lures on my stacker, even though they were strung out about 20 feet behind the boat. I couldn't believe how sensitive the sonar is, as well as the wide width of the 200khz signal. I was able to monitor the ball and see suspended fish above and below the ball. Later, we trolled on Third Connecticut Lake with some small crank baits approximately 20 yards behind the boat. Even though I wasn't able to see returns from these lures due the the distance, I was able to accurately mark waypoints of suspended fish. After two laps around the lake, we pretty much figured out where they were and concentrated on those areas (West side of lake, 10-20 feet of water). We did quite well, taking four Lakers and five Rainbows. I would never have been able to locate these trout so quickly without this sonar/gps unit. The only downside to this unit is the limited color pallets available, however the power and accuracy of this unit makes up for the bells and wistles it lacks, as compared to the Humminbirds. I'm using the Navionics "States" chip for NH only, which saved me some money. The GPS is extremely accurate, no issues at all.
I highly recommend this unit for those of you who like to troll, your downrigger ball will appear as a heavy black line which will allow you to accurately control your height above the bottom.

No contour lines are shown on my lake although depths are shown. I tried everything to bring contours up and even called tech support - nothing works. As near as I can see I need to buy a seperate SD card with that info. Strangely, the manual shows contour lines as does the simulation and nothing indicates a seperate SD card is needed.
Owner's manual is not helpful. It lists everything the unit can do, but does not show how to intrepret images on the screen.

I'm not sure why people have issues with the menu on this unit. I didn't even read the instructions and used it with ease. Would highly recommend.
