Great for Those With All Thumbs Great little device for keeping line from rolling in on baitcasters, especially when you have to put them into storage for transport and keeping. While they will usually grab and hold the line when you are reeling it in for storage --- unless your crankin' it in real hard with drag still set on the reel --- the overhand knot recommendation really helps keep it in place once you take in the remaining slack. While it's not a monumental task, I still hate having to fish the line backout through the guide after it decides to roll back out onto the spool. January 13, 2011
Ingenious! I purchased a package of these last weekend from your Memphis, TN store. What a neat little device. I have always struggled with storing my baitcasters properly. I either left the lures hooked to the reel or the line tied to one of my rod guides. Now I can keep my reels from getting more unnecessary hook scratches and I can also back off the drags on my battle worn ol' green Curados. I have five of them and I try to take any steps I can to help prolong their lifespan. These are a must for every baitcaster that I own. I plan on buying a few more packs for myself and my other fishing buddies in the very near future. Thanks Bass Pro. October 9, 2008
This is cool! When I saw these things on the web site I thought , well they will do anything for a buck but one day I found myself with a gift card with enough value on it to buy a good bit of stuff but nothing sexy so I purchased a few smaller purchases you know frivolous stuff so I got these crazy things and you know I like them just tie an overhand knot in your line run it thru the loop and pull it taught and reel it in just dont go to tight. The line retainer helps me protect my reels from damage and save me lots of angst because I can keep the line threaded thru the line guide and cover my reels during transport. Line retainers are a really good buy if you care to take care of your equipment. November 2, 2012
Line Retainer This is a great product. It grips your line and keeps it from being pulled into your reel and keeps the line from tangling on the reel. July 11, 2006

It is any device used to secure the end of the fishing line. Some rods have small loops on them to secure a hook (hook retainer), but that would require a hook to be on the line.
