Rated 5 out of 5Â by travenscroft Leupold VXR 4-12 40mm CDS AWESOME
My third Leupold scope. I have had two VX3 in the past and I have used the VXR for about three weeks now. I am very impressed with the quality of the VXR scope. I have used the scope on my FNAR to shoot about 12-13 hogs so far and it is awesome. The low light visility is excellent and the red dot stands out on the black of the hogs in extremely low light conditions. In fact you are able to shoot hogs well after legal shooting hours in Florida. You must be careful about clock watching so you don't hunt past shooting hours.

I have the VXR 4-12 CDS and the fire dot reticle lights up every time I pick the rifle up.I have compared this scope to other scopes that I have that cost three times as much at dusk and I can not tell the difference in clarity and light transmission.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by TKB86 bad design
I liked the fire dot reticle concept. Gives you a better focal point when aiming. I like how you can adjust the brightness of the dot or make it an intermittent flash. The bad about this scope is the design for the battery. When you place the battery on the left side of the scope it is hard to put the cap back on, resulting in the battery popping out, or breaking the little metal clips inside where the battery goes in. Once the battery is in if it's not in correctly the fire dot won't light up. This leaves you frustrated, and without a scope.

What quality of glass does this scope have compared to the VX 3? And how noticeable is the difference?
Answers
A:Â
It appears to be noiceably better than the VX3's, but I have two older model VX3's. Leupold Tech support is excellent and you could find out more about the specifics from themAnswers
A:Â
Yes it has a number of different adjustable settings for brightness and remembers the last setting you used and begins at that setting the next time you use the scope.A:Â
My scope has 8 intensity settings and when you pick the rifle up it comes on on the last setting you left it onA:Â
I found the answer to my own question. Apparently, this scope has 8 levels of brightness for the firedot. I am concerned about this because I haven't heard great reviews from my friends that have non-adjustable lighted reticles. The reticles get so bright that you can't see your target in low light. I might have to give this a try.Answers
A:Â
Yes, I think that is what the reticle is for all the CDS scopes. You can get other reticles, but right now the CDS only comes with the firedot duplex. Awesome and amazing scopeA:Â
My VXR 4-12 CDS scope has the fire dot duplex reticleA:Â
All of these will have the FireDotDuplex except item 38-404-230-00, it will have the Ballistic FireDot.
