does it work off a pier?
1) daytime - offshore on a dropper loop above a terminal bank sinker weight like a bait rig for bottom fish. Drop into the middle of a bait ball or beneath a feeding frenzy and bounce it or
2) at night when squid rise to boat lights and are visible at the surface - with light spnning gear. You cast out beyond the lights and retrieve slowly - they tend to hit at the edge of the illumination. This would work fine from a pier if you see squid.
Either way, once they hit, just keep pressure on the line and reel fast. I remove the squid by grabbing the top of the jig and jerking it downwards a few inches over a bait well so the squid comes loose and falls into the water. Keep the cover on the bait well, squid can shoot up out of the water several feet!
