I originaly purchased my Lamson Konic 1.5 reel for Blugill fishing on my 4wt which it does without problem. Funny thing is I catch ALOT of Largemouth Bass while flyfishing for bream and the lil reel Won my heart after handling several LMs in the 5-8lb range. So much so that I took the lil 4wt and 1.5 Konic inshore saltwater fishing last week. Several Trout in the 20-27" range and a few healthy Redfish later the lil Konic reels drag is just as smoooooth as it was the day I bought it and I mean several of the fish worked us over good! I don't recomend ABUSING your Konic the way I have... I'm just saying the Lil Lamson Konic reels will handle just as much as reels costing 5 Times as much!

Used twice on stream for a total of 12 hrs. Top notch quality with out snobbery. Nice and light: balances a TFO 4 weight perfectly at my index finger. Smooth drag, very pleasant to fish all day. Highly recommend.
Intend to buy an extra extra spool and use on a custom Winston 5wt BIIIx when it is finished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by anonymous96 best fly reel i have used
this is the toughest fly reel i have ever used. I normaly fly fish for bass. I got the 8 weight and it preforms flawlessly with big bass and a few crappie. drag never failed even in lond runs and big jumps by 5 pound + bass.

I HAVE BURNED UP 3 MARTIN 72'S IN 5 WEEKS, THE DRAG SYSTEM IS NOT TOUGH ENOUGH TO WITH HOLD THE ABUSE AND CONSTANT WARE I AM PUTTING ON THESE REELSAnswers

You won't have a problem with the drag on this reel. It's the same drag Lamson/Waterworks uses on it's much more expensive reels.A:
I use a konic for catching longtail tuna (northern bluefin) to 20 kg and MacTuna (false albacore?) to about 12 kg's on 8 and 10 wt rods. After heaps of fish I've still not had a problem. These fish pull a couple of hundred yards of backing off the reel pretty quickly - never had a problem after 2 seasons. At the price I've got several and even if it does after 3 or 4 years it is great value.Details:
is the retrieve on the left hand sideAnswers
A:
Either side, it is reversible via clutch once the spool is removed.A:
It comes on the left hand side, but it's so easy to change sides, no tools at all needed. diagrams and specs come with the reel.A:
It is completely reversible.Top 500 Contributor

To Unlucky angler, The retrieve on this reel as with all Lamsom reels is easily converted for either right or left hand. Prior to putting backing and fly line this should be done. If the retrieve is wrong for you than you need to visit your pro shop, have the line and backing removed and have the retrieve switch made and then install line and backing for proper operation.A:
Either left or right handAnswers

The spool just pops off with a little effort. No buttons to push.A:
Yes, absolutely. It is a friction fit. Go to Lamson Waterworks as they have "in your face" files for each reel & their function.Top 500 Contributor

Yes, just remove the spool, tap the anti reverse bearing out and turn it over, then replace the spool.A:
Although the instructions on how to switch to left hand are a bit long winded, switching is fairly easy to do. Instructions: Changing the retrieve direction of your reel is accomplished by reversing the direction of an internal clutch assembly. First, remove the spool and unscrew by hand the cap at the end of the center cylinder. By removing the cap the clutch should fall out (tap lightly on flat surface if necessary, or use a pencil to help freeand control the clutch). Flip the clutch over and install. Female notches on the clutch must fit into male notches inside the cylinder. Use a pencil or similar clean tool to rotate the clutch as necessary. Reinstall the cap by hand. Cap should thread down flush with body.

I only use mine in saltwater and it gets the occasional dunking. But it is washed in warm fresh water after each outing (take it into the shower when you have a rinse), thoroughly dried and serviced.Top 1000 Contributor
A:
It is suitable salwater because of the sealed drag and the drag system they use on the water works is all the same for every model.1 of 1
