Although it shares identical drag design and components with their most expensive fly reels, the Waterworks-Lamson Guru™ Fly Reel is Waterworks-Lamson's lowest-priced fully machined reel. The signature arm-style element on the Guru's frame combines with open spokes to maximize structural strength and minimize weight. As with other Waterworks-Lamson reels, the Guru Reel features true large arbor ratios and is finished with a clear type 2 anodize.

Lamson® Guru™ Fly Reels or Spare Spools
I have this reel on my TFO 7wt. I have only been fly fishing for a few years now and don't have a lot of experience with different equipment. This was a MAJOR upgrade from my first $99 rod/reel combo from Basspro. So far it feels like night and day compared to what I had. I just got a new Sage Z-Axis 9wt and I think I will purchased this reel for that one as well.

expected better from Water Works
I have been looking forward to buying this real for some timed now. I know every detail about the reel and the company's philosaphy so when the Lamson name and Guru logo rubbed of the reel the same day I question the quality of this reel. I look forward to using this reel in the spring hopefully in the Caribean which is what I bought it for. Don't get me wrong this is a great reel Just dont expect to have the same finish as their other upper models. There seems to be a penalty for being on a budget.

unfortionately, i haven't been fishing much but plan to move to Bellingham, WA in Oct to test the reel out real good on great rivers in the fall. The same drag they say as their other more expensive reels and from reading other reveiws of Lamson, I don't think you can go wrong. It does pick up the line very fast and the size 3.5 i'm sure can hold any hard running coho, big bow, or dollie and mid range kings. i'll add more in Oct or Nov when Heaven opens up the floodgates of duck hunting mixed in with steelhead on great Rivers
