I gave it fair (not poor) because I used this paddle for 2 years and survived. I used it with my plastic fishing Kayak. The grips are ridged and dig into your hands and not placed where I would naturally want to hold the paddle. I had to work a lot harder with this paddle than i would have liked to. If you are a beginner like I was and want to go as cheap as possible because you aren't sure how often you will go out, go for it. However, plan for your hands to hurt if you are out for more than and hour at a time or trying to paddle up stream in any amount of current. In retrospect I would spend the extra dough to make my trips more comfortable. They are durable, I will give them that.
