Kinami Baits® Palm Tree
The incredibly versatile Palm Tree from Kinami Baits is a bulky bait built to resemble a solid bodied tube bait. Ideal for Texas and Carolina rigging, the Palm Tree's is deadly when rigged backwards on a 4/0 wide gap hook. When rigged backwards it slowly sinks away from you, and its skirt produces a natural flaring action. Bass can't hold back when they spot a Palm Tree headed their way!

Some of my biggest fish come on this bait. I fish it primarily rigged backwards...using Mustad Ultrapoint Mega Lite hooks ranging from 3/0 - 5.0.
Just push the point through the collar and out, then back through the body of the bait and skin hook the point...
Bait casts like a bullet...tends to swim/fall away from you...tentacles flare on the twitch...
I fish it weightless...but due to its shape if falls fast...have caught fish out of 19 feet of water to inches...
Love pitching it into the heart of brushpiles...a great 'mimic' bait for bluegill or crayfish.
the plastic IS soft like most of these baits...but rigged backward, as I do...it is not uncommon to last through 6-8 fish...it's all in the hook you choose and the way you choose to rig it.
one other tip: I like to add craw scent to my Palm Trees...preferring the Smelly Jelly products...it does make a difference.
the image is of a big girl (around here) that succumbed to the palm tree...

If you fish any smaller lakes where the primary bass forage is bluegill and not shad, try these twitched slowly along the edges of the grass, weightless or with a 1/32 bullet. Black/blue, Junebug, and Christmas Tree have been best colors for me. Just make sure you texpose/skinhook and use the 4/0s with a twist lock for best hookset results and longer use, cause they do tear up. Hang on!

Though it is tube shaped, this bait is solid. This quality allows it to be thrown easily without a sinker or weighted hook. It can be used effectively as a jerkbait, dropshot, carolina rig, texas rig, or simply weedless. I highly recommend this bait.

I went to my local honey hole the other day with some of these that I picked up. These things are AWESOME! Rig them backwards with the 4/0 Owner twist locks and watch out. When you "pop" them of the bottom, they fall away from you, keeping your line out there. The bass like to hit them on the fall. These are EXACTLY the same as the Yamamoto Fat Ika's, with the only differences being the colors and price, and they're from the same company. I had great luck with the Christmas Pumpkin color. I've had problems finding these at my local spots, but at half the price of the Ika's, they are worth searching for. I was stoked when I found them here. Try them, you won't be dissapointed.

This where you Texas rig the bait and bring the hook point completely through the body of the bait, so it rides along the back of the bait. Once you do this pull the body of the bait forward and stick the point into the bait so it hides the exposed point only. This allows the rig to be weedless, but increases your hookup ratio.A:Â
when you bring the hook point all the way through the bait...and then just barely put the point slightly under the surface of the bait...I like EWG hooks for this...as the barb portion lies flat against the body of the plastic...and it's real easy just to slightly bury the point back into the plastic...
on the bite, it releases and is available for hook ups...
Pretty much rig all my plastics this way...a similar approach is 'texposed'

Can I use this with ultralite equipment? I know you should use a 4/0 hook, but I was wondering the weight of the lure itself?

It's a pretty dense lure, at least a half ounce, probably much more. Ultralite probably wouldn't be best. Also, a little backbone in the rod is necessary as a pretty good hookset is a must with the solid body, even with skinhooking it. M/MH fast tip is what I use.A:Â
They are relatively heavy, and would be difficult to fish hookset on ultra lite equipment, it isn't impossible, but I think these are better suited for a medium/medium heavy action setup with a stronger line to match.1 of 1
