Designed to enhance the presentation of your line, Kevin VanDam’s Line and Lure® Conditioner is made specifically to work with today’s more specialized lines. While it positively affects the presentation of your line, the conditioner doesn’t leave an oily residue or make a mess on your tackle and hands like many silicone treatments. It adds yards to your casts, reduces casting effort, and virtually eliminates the frustrations of backlash and line twist. The result: more accurate casts more often with increased distance.
Dramatically improves casting distance and control
Kevin VanDam's Line and Lure® Conditioner
This product was sold as the solution to just about every line problem there was. I am mildly impressed. While it does work, I don't think its near the product its sold as.
Several people have compared this to Armor All. It smells nothing like Armor All and feels nothing like it either. Armor All dries things out over time. I have not found this to be true with the KVD conditioner.
I had some fluorocarbon and mono lines that had been on the reel for about 3 months. I applied this to them very liberally. I noticed no decrease in line memory. Line did feel smoother and seemed to have less resistance going through the guides. I did not notice any increase in casting distance as well.
Using this on old line is probably why it gets some negative reviews. Where I did notice some improvement is when I started with fresh new line. You have got the shake the guts out of this stuff to make it work. It separates when the bottle sits for any period of time. Shaking it hard mixes it very well.
You really need to apply this to the main spool before spooling up. Soak the main spool and leave it sit for a few hours. Overnight is even better. Start with spooling about 10 yards and soaking the spool down with about 5-6 sprays. It will find its way through all the line. Spool another 10 yards and repeat. Do this until you get the correct amount of line on the spool.
My experience with fluorocarbon and the KVD is somewhat better. There will still be some line memory but it is noticeably better. With mono I cant tell a difference at all. Line memory is still there. With braid it does soften it up a bunch.
This is not a fix all problems with line twist and memory. Care should be taken when spooling up. There are tons of videos on the proper way to do it. Casting reels and spinning reels are different in how the line must be spooled. Spool your line to within 1/8" of spool remaining for both spinning and casting reels. Spooling to much and your going to have line jump off the reel and make a mess. Spooling to less makes the line have to strain to come off the reel. Both of which will cause your casting distance to decrease.
I keep a couple of bottles in my bag and truck. I will continue to use this as it does work. However its not the cure all.

worth every penny
I bought this KVD conditioner but I didn't really believe it would work as good as it did. I am sold now. I'm sure it works on any line but I have found it to be necessary on flourocarbon line. Even top of the line Tatsu benefits by the application of KVD conditioner.

Great for Flourocarbon
I had all but given up on using 10# test fluorocarbon line on my spinning reels. I gave it one more try using this line conditioner and so far it has worked great!! I'm not sure how it works but it definitely makes fluorocarbon much more manageable. I have already bought a second bottle and yes I have recommended it to a friend.

I'll admit that I was a bit sceptical, but after using this I couldn't believe that it actually did work. Even on a 18 year old diawa mega cast it made it cast just as nice as my newer high end reels. Definately happy.

Although I have not done any scientific testing on this product, I don't believe there is. I have used it extensively on walleye, bass, and panfish fishing from boat, shore, and ice fishing. I usually outfish everyone around. If there is any scent distraction, the benefits far overshadow. If someone did do a scientific test and found this product turns fish away, I would be shocked.
I spray it on at the end of each outing as I put my equipment back in the rod box. It will soak down into the layers of line. It works best when you let it dry, but also helps if you apply it and use it wet. Don't forget to put a light spray on your guides!
