I've been fishing the Ottawa River in Ontario for years. This the best bait by far for smallmouth. Smoke salt&pepper out fishes other lures 4 to 1

I use Kalins on the ohio river mostly for striper walleye and sauger, i've never used a better grub than kalins. i use the blue pearl and the smoke, put a little yum to give it a reddish tint and i've been catchin up to 60 fish a day, great grub!

Usually, one grub will catch 6 to 10 fish before it is totally destroyed. I have caught large surf perch, calicos, spotted bay bass, sand bass, mackeral, bonita, barracuda, small white sea bass and halibut on them. I've tried other name brands and Kalins seem to stay on the leadhead better and longer. And for me, they produce more fish!

What EWG hook size? What jig head weight/size? Anyone do it texas-syle or weedless? My goal is lunker smallmouth in clear lakes. Thanks!Answers
A:Â
I use a 4 hook on a hand molded jig head with a 90 degree angle. Use a shad color or a crawfish color with a green pumpkin jig head.A:Â
I use these at Cranberry with a 1/4 or 3/8 oz Chompers Stand-Up Jighead ,depending on how fast the wind is blowing. Jig it and if they don't hit it on the fall, swim it back. Pull the weedless wire out with a pair of pliers. Weedless is fishless. You might have to pull some weeds off the hook now and then, but you'll hook up on the smallies more often. Blue Pearl has killed them for me.A:Â
Redbass, I use plain lead head jigs 1/4 to 1/2 oz. with 5". For smallmouth try black and blue combo and fish slow.A:Â
2/0 is best if using this alone.Use with 1/4 oz swim jigs. SM crush them.
Also - use on 1/8 oz 3/16 oz Gamakatsu football jig heads (painted or unpainted)
A:Â
redbass i use a no.2 blue hook with a lite bullet wieght and a 6-8 in. purple glitter worm and it works just fine. I use this in the shallows that is how i caught my 24.6 largemouth out of Okauchee Lake, Wisc. Now looking at a smallmouth from Lake Geneva, Wisc. The bass was 7 lb.14 oz. for here that is goodA:Â
FOR A #5 USE A 3/0-4/0 OR EVEN A 5/0 HOOK. FOR THE SINKER USE 1/4 TO 3/8OR1/2 DEPENDING HOW DEEP YOU ARE GOING. TES PEOPLE DO IT TEXAS STILE THOUGH CAROLINA RIGGING IS BETTER.YOU CAN DO IT WEEDLESS WITH WEEDLESS HOOKS YOU CAN BUY FROM BASS PRO SHOPS. HOPE THIS WAS HELPFULL GOOD LUCKDetails:Â
I picked some up today and was surprised that there is no flavour/ scenet that I can tell. Yet I've read in numerous places that these grubs are the cats pajamas. Anyone know what sets them apart?Answers
A:Â
Desigen parameters. Primarily tail performance but also material type and body size and shape. I use them first and foremost. I like that they aren't scent impregnated so I can add my own. Allows me to do a little tweaking when needed. I also like the clear colors so I can dye them to my own specs.A:Â
i think it's the action and color combo.A:Â
They actually are salty. I think the action on these grubs set them apart from most grubs. I find them to hold up through several fish and they store really well. Whether carolina rigged or on a jig head I have found them hard to beat.A:Â
Something about the action of the curly tail for sure. But most of all the subtle glitter of the various colored flakes embedded in the plastic. Kalin seems to have about the right amount of glitz here -not too much, but enough to be noticed. I find them very effective under the right conditions.A:Â
the grubs are just very realistic, and duplicate a shad very well. a slow up and down technique usually works best.A:Â
Their look in the water is so lifelike that it fools fish, especially in clearer water! I have fished it all over in all kinds of water clarity and these grubs catch fish!Top 100 Contributor
A:Â
I think its just that grubs in general work well, just my 2cA:Â
As far as iI know the grubs don't have any scent but has salt added to them. I love these grubs, they have never let me down. It could be the tail action, all I know is that they work and they work very well.A:Â
cat nip??Top 25 Contributor
A:Â
They're a good price, hold up very well, and most of the colors are translucent which is a big attractor to fish in clear water. The pearl blue salt and pepper is my favorite!!! I think the colors are the main draw.Top 250 Contributor
A:Â
They are effective because of the action that is give off by the curly tail. Fish are attractive to that wild action that it gives off when fished correctly.Images for this Answer
