The KA-BAR™ USMC Utility Knife oval handle is constructed of compact leather disks that have been smoothed and polished. The blade is semi-serrated, high-carbon steel with a black epoxy powder-coated finish. Leather sheath. Weight: 20 oz. Blade length: 7''. Overall length: 11-7/8''. Made in USA.
Overall a good knife. I have had for about a year now and it is well balanced, but it comes a little dull out of the box. Once sharpened it holds and edge pretty well. The blade design is great. it is light and fells good in your hand. I love the clip point. The handle durability is poor. After some abuse the handle became loose and the hand guard bent. The sheath looks great and holds the knife in place well.

Do you need a permit to carry a 7" blade in GA? Just curious if anyone knows the details. I would just be using it to go camping, hunting, etc...not taking into the local nightclub or church..... Do you owners of this carry it around?? Thanks
I live in GA and everybody I know (Including myself) Carries a knife at all times while Huning and fishing and has never got into any trouble for it. This is Georgia not California (No offense to anybody from CA), The rules here are more relaxed.
Not if you sharpen just the edge. The black coating serves two purposes....1. it protects the finish against rust and...2. it absorbs bright reflections so as not to give the knife away. Like any coating it will wear off when rubbed against an abrasive.
No, sharpening the blades edge will not cause the coating to come off since there should not be any coating along the edge in the first place. And no, it will not extend the time between sharpinging. If you plan to sharpen the clip point then expect to lose the coating over the false edge. Also you can expect to lose the coating over the knife after time with heavy use, but that helps give the ka-bar its rugged good looks.
