These latches have got to be the poorest excuse for a redesign ever made. I have three marine coolers and the original latches lasted over 5 years. Once they broke, though, I replaced them with this style and they didn't last one month of normal use!! They are all in need of replacement and I am willing to put the money, although reluctantly, into the stainless style hoping that the screws will stay in. That might be another problem.

Igloo should be ashamed of themselves for this latch design. Who ever accepted this latch designed to be put towards production must be related to the person who designed it. The person who designed this latch, must not have ever tried it. It is totally worthless and will break sooner than later. The thin plastic hinge at the bending stress point is surely going to become damaged/crack/split in little time usage. Keep a roll a duc-tape handy, you'll need it to repair the weak latches after breaking. I've already gone through 3 pairs of these latches from normal use. Keep a spare latch on hand. Not quality at all and will think twice about buying any Igloo product again. Shame on you Igloo, I expected more from you.

The latch does work even though it wasn't the same as the original...The quality is lacking so I don't expect it to last long

Thank you for your question! According to Igloo's website, the "Universal" design of hinges and latches makes them interchangeable/retrofit all current and original style Igloo hinges and latches.

Yes, if yours is currently a one piece design, it is now this two-piece design as pictured on Bass pro shop catalog. Igloo made a design change, they know they intially made a design mistake. But sorry to say, I tried this replacement design too and have not had any better results. I gone through 3 separate replacement pairs already, just about a one pair per season.A:Â
if you remove the top portion of the latch, you can easily install the top half of the new latch and it works just fine. The other option is to replace both pieces and it works even better.A:Â
I bought it and it worked, but it isn't exactly the same. It also is very lightweight and not very durable.1 of 1
