Icom Again Received the new Icom 412 and installed it. Have not had a chance to use it yet, but took out an Icom 302 which was an excellent unit, so I'm expecting the same excellent quality. Easy install. July 8, 2012

can this unit comunicate with an Icom V-8000 (2meter) ??

Answer this Question

No It can not. Reason is Amateur Radio has no reason to communicate with a Radio that is capable of Xmitting on licensed required bands. Therefore, IF you want to use 2M Amateur bands than the radio must be stand alone. If you modify this radio to Xmit on 2M between 144-148MHz , that is operating illegal and there is the possibility of the Coast Guard and FCC getting involved.

Sorry for the long explanation but someone else may have wanted it.

Staff Answer
The M412 is a marine radio that operates on FM mode and will transmit and receive from about 156 MHz to around 162 MHz. The V8000 is an amateur radio that also operates on FM mode but, it's frequency range is from 144 MHz to 148 MHz. They cannot communicate with each other because of the differences in their operating bands, but also, even if the V8000 were modified to go out-of-band, that radio would not be legal to use outside of the amateur bands because it's not certified by the FCC to be a marine radio.
