Rated 4 out of 5Â by KayakAngler Don't Leave The Dock Without It
I fish for freshwater species (trout, bass, catfish) from a kayak and have found this item invaluable. I don't leave the dock without it, because this unit and the related sonar wrist watch give me so much valuable information.
I troll about 85% of the time, and this sensor works reliably. It's attached to my kayak by a string, and floats along side the boat as I paddle. The readings are accurate, and it lets me know where the bottom is so I don't get hung up if I'm trolling at 25 feet and suddenly come upon a shallow area.
It also shows me where fish are located, and at what depth. This focuses my fishing.
The only limitation relates to the internal battery strength. The units work reliably down to about 60 feet if they are fresh. As the battery gets drained, the signal becomes weaker and, the maximum depth becomes less and less. Write the date of first use on each new unit, so you'll get a better feel for exactly how long they last. Keep a newer unit with you at all times, so if an older unit starts getting weak you can replace it on the water.
Overall, battery life is my only complaint, but the valuable information I gain is worth the price of replacing the units when the signal strength runs low.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by OneLung Just Now Need To Replace Mine
I have used the RF-45 that came with my RF-15 Smartcast since May without any trouble and I fish at least three times a week. The Smartcast system is a great product and gives me all the advantages of my boat mounted system right from shore.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by MarcoBrazil fragile sensor, works for one day only!
This sensor is a cheap lame item. It works for only one day. Bought 2 of them and both worked for 1 day only. Now they a both dead and I´m stuck with a cheap watch.

CAUTION: You will increase the possibility of breaking your line if you use light test pound line on your reel. The RSSis positively buoyant (is buoyant under its own weight plus 0.2 ounces of bait and lead weight.) The maximum amount
of weight for any attachment to the RSS is approximately 0.2 ounces (5.67 grams), and includes the combined
weight of any hook, line, weight, swivel/snap swivel and bait that is attached to the RSS. The RSS itself weighs 1
ounce, and therefore light test line might brea

Yes I use it with my RF 20. The only thing is that you cannot use all of the new features with the RF 20. There are some extra features with the new RF 45 that work with the other newer displays.A:Â
