Rated 5 out of 5 by JedStorm Great for shore fishermen!!
Attached the bobber/sensor to an old telescopic rod. Started casting the sensor around and sure enough I could see where the fish were, their depth and approximate size.
A must have for those of us without a boat!
More than pleased with this unit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by sailordave108 Short transmitter battery life
THis is a neat idea and I use it on my kayak with very good results when the RF15 is working. First off the battery in the green transmitter can't be replaced or charged. My most recent transmitter was bought in October '11 and quit in March '12. I hardly used it at all in Nov-Jan. The first transmitter also quit early on. You are looking at a fishfinder with $50-$75 a year in consumabale expense.
Second: The power in plug on the display is very touchy. I've changed the power supply wire/plug and the issue is in the display side. I finally tie wrapped the cord in a posistion which lets the thing stay on. Wooks good when it is working -- but more of a problem than I expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by russgia123 Works great with my kayak.
I use this when kayak fishing. Trailing the RSS transducer on a 3' cord attached to a cleat and velcro the unit to the deck of my SOT. It dosen't have all the bells and whistles but it's a good basic fish finder.

Rated 2 out of 5 by russebp Questionable Humminbird Customer Service
I received this as a gift from my wife, and it worked for about 20 minutes of total service before malfunctioning. The water that had measured 15 feet at first became 30+ feet and then 50+ feet. The water that was 84 degrees became 99 degrees. Reminder: this was it's first trip out of the box when it began malfunctioning.
I emailed Humminbird customer service (inside the box it says to contact Humminbird with any issues and not the retailer), and received a response two work days later telling me to send it back for free service. However, that was going to cost me FedEx shipping, which is hardly free. Reminder: This was a brand new item. So I asked them to pay for the return shipping, which another two work days later, I received an email with a shipping label to print out.
I shipped it back, and about a week and a half later, I now have it back. However, I never was told why it malfunctioned. It's disconcerting when a new product malfunctions out of the box, let alone when no explanation was given. So, I responded to the service email address to ask why it had malfunctioned. Two business days later I received a response that apparently the bobber had malfunctioned.
I haven't had a chance to test it since it's return.
It would be an amazing product if it worked as advertised -- which it did for about 20 minutes. It was eye-opening to have the information about the river bottom where I had been fishing. I learned I need to find a new fishing spot, and it wasn't just me why I wasn't catching anything there.
Until I get many hours of trouble-free use from it, though, I can't personally recommend it. It's neat, but I can't currently promise that it'll work.
Long story: I received this gift from my wife in the last weeks before she delivered our first -- twin boys. She knew my fishing time was about to be limited, so she wanted it to be productive. And there are not a lot of places nearby for boat-less fisherman to reach the water. Unfortunately, the Humminbird RF15 didn't work and a few weeks were wasted while it was on the way to be repaired, "in the shop," and then on the way back. Disappointing.

Use it exclusively on a kayak, just tie the sender off on a short lanyard and it works well. Transmitter is more delicate than you'd think so we use a foam koozie to keep transmitter in when not in the water.A:
You should be able to use this in conjunction with your kayak without an issue. Please keep in mind, though, that this screen portion of the unit does not actually attach down (since it is portable).Answers

I attached it to an old telescopic rod/reel combo. Cast it around until it shows you fish. You can also use it as a bobber..it allows you to dangle a lure from underneath it.A:
Just put a swivel on the end of your fishing pole line, and then attach the rss to the swivel and cast it out, then reel it in when you wantA:
The transmiter is used like a bobber. Just attach it to your line and cast it. You could use another pole if you wanted also.Answers

It really depends on the batteries you buy, and how much you use the unit. As for the rss battery, it is lithium battery and will last for years.A:
Hello, if you dont use it , take the batteries out.. it eats batteries like mad so maybe look into good quality rechargable batteries.. i think i used it maybe 2 times for a total of maybe 8 hours and then i had to replace batteries. i hope that helps God blessDetails:
