I have used Humminbird products since 2004 when i first purchased a gps with a external antenna ( puck) worked great............in 2009 I bought a 788 combo with a internal antenna ,I was never happy with it the position of my boat kept moving and kept giving false speed indications up to 3 mph. I just bought a new boat with a new humminbird installed on it 788ci hd.I was thinking it would be better than my old one ( nope) did the same thing. So I went out and bought a external antenna for it and WOW! what a difference boat position stays in place and speed is right on .So if anyone is thinking that the internal antenna is right for you ( think again ) BUY THE EXTERNAL ............I KNOW FROM EXPERENCE !!!

I was fishing a tournament and my Humminbird GPS receiver went out. Thank goodness I was not relying on the GPS to get me to my fishing spots. I ordered a new GR50 receiver from Bass Pro Shop and 4 days it was on my door steps. Pull the old receiver out and installed the new one. The Humminbird GPS is like new again.

No, this unit will not work with a Humminbird Matrix 27. For the Matrix units you would need the AS GR16 model 406340-1 GPS Receiver. http://store.humminbird.com/product...For Use with

If it has GPS it will work. The GR-16 receives less satelite signals but should do just fine and is about $30.00 cheaper. You will need 2 stainless screws at least 1.50" long. You can take the receiver with you to the hardware to get the right size and I would drill a smaller pilot hole to start the screw in.A:Â
The receiver's dimensions are: 3.25" diameter, 1.5" high and comes with 20 feet of cable and has a 1"-14 thread count stem mountable with optional antenna stem (antenna stem not included). Yes, this works on the 718 sonar.http://store.humminbird.com/media/d...

It's my understanding that there are only 2 GPS receivers for Humminbird. A GR-16 and a GR50. Either one should work and they plug in the unit either from the bottom or the back. The plug is the same on both and and it has a special socket that only this plug will fit. You should install it as high as possible for best reception. Mine is on the gunwale beside the drivers windshield.A:Â
With the addition of the 50 channel GPS Receiver your 718 unit has trackplotting.Q:Â

It will plug in directly to the unit in a special socket either in the back or bottom and must be mounted as high on the boat as possible for best reception. If the top rail is higher than the area you want to mount it to you may want to add a piece of pvc to extend it. It can be purchased from a plumbing supply house and will screw in the bottom of the receiver.A:Â
You should be able to plug in the unit to the back of your 718. Otherwise, check on http://store.humminbird.com/product... sees support for Owner's Manual.1 of 1
