Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeff2012 excellent unit
I bought the 899 in conjunction with a 360 bow mount. The 899 installed easily and cleanly. I have been 2 full days on the water with it and haven't found any problems. The second time out I was able to make the physical ethernet connection to the 360 and the 899 put it to good use as soon as I sorted out a switch I managed to install upside down. The menus are easy to navigate and use. The display is easy to see and read in bright sunlight. Basically, it seems to be everything it is advertised to be.

I bought this from BPS back in March and have been extremely disappointed. The GPS loses signal off and on all day. I have made sure there is nothing blocking the signal but it still will not maintain a GPS signal for more than a few minutes at a time. This unit is useless to navigate by or to find a marked waypoint.

I purchased the hummingbird 899 4 weeks ago after doing quite a bit of research. I think the unit is ok but sure would like to have a printed operators manual. I contacted Humminbird and they sent me xerox copy that was too faint to read. The unit came with a cd but our new apple computer does not have a slot for it so I am stuck. While becoming familiar with the unit and all that it can do a hard copy of a manual would be nice to have in the boat.
I spent over $1300 for the unit and accessories. For this amount of money a user manual should be included.
After calling Humminbird again I was informed that they don't print manuals.
Do you think I could buy one?

by dcraig Definitely worth it
Recently purchased the 899 side imaging combo. Between the ease of use and the great detail of what's below this unit is very well worth the money. I am only a weekend angler but like to optimize my time on the water, and after having this on the boat for the first time yesterday I can say, this is a great time saver. I went back and forth between this and the lowrance models but for me the humminbirds are way more user friendly. With a short time on YouTube you can really have a good understanding of the unit, read outs, and general user set up. I have mine mounted on a ram mount. I purchased the $55 mount instead of the $140 mount for the larger screens and works great. Also makes it much easier to change screens and adjust setting by bringing the unit farther up so you don't have to bend or crouch down as far. Also a plus it comes with a hard plastic cover for the screen.
