I have had this depth finder for over a year now and have nothing but great things to say about it. It was a learning curve at first, but as soon as I understood everything it became a dream come true. I wouldn't go with anything else as far as I am concerned.

I am providing a zero star review of this product after having spent 2 years trying to work out all of my problems with Humminbird. 1. The instructions for mounting the transducer make my boat hull unusable (Nitro NX882 with a 150). Didn't think that would be a problem. I installed it in the location that met the majority of the instructions. The quality of the side finding capability in this location was poor due to the motor. During the first few months the transducer was ripped from the mount and cable that connected it to the unit. Humminbird replaced that transducer. After remounting it, the mounting bracket broke again and the new transducer maintained connection to the unit. I took the boat to a dealer and paid for them to move the mounting to the best location based on their experience (no local certified installers#. Since then I have broken the mounting bracket 3 times. 2. About a year into ownership the unit would not power on until after the first run of the day. After changing batteries and following all of Humminbirds instructions for debugging I could not resolve the issue. I sent the unit in for repair to the tune of $200+s+h. 3. After having the unit repaired...now, it will not stay on during a run with any rough water whatsoever and the unit is now unable to scroll through the various screens. It is stuck on GPS and recordings. Humminbird is sending me a return label. In summary, ~$1500 #original price, 3 mounting brackets, installation costs, repair costs, and S+H) for a GPS unit that will not stay powered on when you need it most is not a good investment. This unit has also never been able to read depth at a speed over idle. I loved this unit for the first week. Disappointed it wouldn't read depth on plane, but that was in the warnings so it wasn't unexpected. Now I am sick that I have spent so much $ on something that still doesn't work correctly with no end in sight. If I can edit this review I will add the picture of the unit attempting to power on.

It is well worth the money!! I would recommend it to anyone that loves to fish..

I have an old basic H323 model and want to upgrade to the 798ci HD SI.The old one has a hull-thru transducer but does not read temperature. Would I have to replace the transducer with a new hull-thru and the cable back to the unit?

You will need to install the side imaging transducer on the transom in order to get side imaging. It comes with the 798.

The 798ci HD SI Combo cables are not compatible with the 323 unit. You would need to use the cables/transducer that comes with the 798ci HD SI fishfinder. Thanks!Q:Â

I am replacing my Lowrance LMS 520C in dash units; will these fit in the same cut outs?

I'm switching to Hummingbird after 4 years of no real fix with non-working GPS on my Lowrance 520C units. Factory has had me replace 8 GPS antenna modules then told me it was the units that were bad but they would not help as the units were now out of warranty. 30+ years of using Lowrance products and now they tell me too bad for you.Answers

NAVIONICS SD CARD PLATINUM + is not compatable with this unit....puh the sd card in either slot and has in auto selet and it will use the best card avialable.

No it comes with a transom mount Side Imaging transducer. It will need to be installed on the transom.

This unit comes standard with a Transom Mount Transducer. Any other options would need to be purchased separately. Humminbird also offers a Trolling Motor Mount Transducer and a Thru Hull Transducer.Answers

yes as long as it has a clear view to both sides of the boat

Side imaging will work on a pontoon boat as long as the transducer is mounted in a location on the back of the boat/pontoon that will not allow blockage to the left or the right. If anything, at the slower speeds you may need to trim the engine out so that it is out of the way while using the Side Imaging at the slower speeds. ThanksAnswers

Per Humminbird, with proper installation the digital depth and regular 2D sonar will work at high speeds. Otherwise, there is an option to add on a second transducer to the setup with a y-cable if needed to obtain the high speed readings if not possible with the included transducer. The transom transducer would be the XNT 9 20 and the y-cable would be the AS SI LR Y. ThanksAnswers

it narrows down as you get shallower

The Side Imaging is good down to 150ft. Anything past this is generally too grainy or distorted to be of any use so the maximum depth capability of the SI is 150ft. Thanks!
