Rated 1 out of 5 by right purchase? Bass Pro Shops was great. I got the unit in a timely manner........an't say the same for Hummingbird. I've had the unit for about three weeks. It is still not on the boat. The only transducer option was a transom mount, so I contacted Hummingbird for an exchange and they said "no problem". I was told that it would be shipped the same day they received the transom mount. When I responded back, after not receiving the unit for several days. I was told that it was on back order. Nothing was mentioned about this earlier. I can't believe that Hummingbird did not have a trolling motor transducer in stock, in the month of April, peak of the fishing season. I wonder if the person in charge of their purchasing has ever fished! April 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by humminbird just bought this depth finder hoping it will put me and the misses on more crappie. only used once so far so still figuring it out. however has amazing screen clarity in any light situation. shows good bottom detail with the down imagining. i will recommend but if ur not one of the pros be ready to just have a few trips on the water to figure it all out! Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome The 597 with DI and GPS is wonderful addition to my boat. Does all that i hoped for, so i give the unit a 5 star plus rating. The fact that Humminbird only includes a CD and no manual for refrancing set of the unit gets 1 star because of the extra cost to have 1 printed. April 5, 2013

It will with the base map already loaded from the factory. If you want better contours and better lake detail,buy the Navionics card thar covers the Northern Lakes

I had an external antenna set up with my 318 and the quick disconnect connections are the same on the 597 . I hear that you can program the unit to use the internal or external antenna. I haven't looked at that and am not sure if mine is using the internal or external antenna, since both are hooked up or installed

I asked this exact question to Humminbird just yesterday and here is their response:

"No sir, the US2 is not compatible with the 597ci HD DI model.

The universal sonar would be compatible with the dual beam models, not the down image models."

I had no problem installing it. Took me about an hour at most. Installed the transducer and ran the wire to under the dash. Mounted the quick disconnect and connected the power wires to battery and ground. Connected the head to the quick disconnect and it worked just fine.

The bass pro shops salesman told me the Lake chip is extra and cost $100. Not sure about other chips.

this depends on what you are wanting the maps to do. I use the uni map that was included for my navagation on the river. It is adequate.

If you are wanting see contours of the lakes/rivers, then you will want to upgrade.
