However saying all that. The unit is very user friendly and super easy to understand. <lol> still it should have a manual instead of a cd. May 22, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Catfsher Hummingbird 596c I bought the Hummingbird 596 for cat fishing and Crappie fishing. I didn't even have to read the directions and was set up using it in only a few minutes. Clear screen and good graphics. So far I've used it in 30 feet of water or less. It was easy to set up to my trolling motor with built in transducer using the adapter cable that was sold separately. I plan on buying another unit for the back of my boat. Very pleased with this product. May 13, 2013

It's comes with a disc that shows you all one would need to know. Regardless what others say about not having instructions. It even come with a quick guide so you can go strait to the lake. All bells and whistles + the fasteners is in the box. If some one say it don't have instructions it didn't come from Bass Pro. March 25, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Famine Good Bang for Buck! I recently purchased this fishfinder to introduce myself to the Down Imaging family. This fish finder thus far, seems easy to install and displays some pretty sexy quality outputs of what's under my boat. I was extremely impressed with the picture quality and the usefulness of having splitscreen between SwitchFire and Down Imagining. It fully displays most of the structure and anything between the bottom and your boat in pretty good HD quality. My only disappointments thus far is the fact that you are limited by the screen size. I'm a huge tech nerd and the screen size does hinder the picture clarity to some extent. I have this set on the console, so I'm always in close view to examine the details on the move. But, that's what you pay for when you're going with this model other than the bigger 7inches and above that can cost over a grand or more. If you're looking for a quality HD DI unit that does what you expect, then I highly recommend this unity over say the equal DI unit for Lowrance. The main reason I choose this one over the unit Lowrance offered at the same time is because of the picture quality. I actually went in store to make the comparison and Humminbird dramatically does DI in better quality in comparison. I would only recommend going to Lowrance over this unit if you happen to want the new 7 inch DI's they just released a few months ago due to new HD quality picture and of course the bigger screen size. The only thing to note however, when you go to the bigger Lowrance size, you can snag the DI and SI unit from Humminbird that's currently on sale with a rebate for 799 bucks. SI is surely needed when you're finally seeing how restrictive DI is on the water with your first DI unit. March 16, 2013
