Hornady® LEVERevolution™ Rifle Centerfire Ammo
45-70 DOES NOT MEET THE HYPE
ORIGINAL 45-70 AMMUNITION WAS ACCURATE AND FACTORY ADVERTISED AT 2050 FPS. IT AVERAGED 2100 FPS IN MY 1885 HI WALL. NEW LOT READS 1875 FPS. THIS IS ALMOST 10% BELOW HORNADY ADVERTISED SPECS.
FACTORY BULLET DROP IS NOW 6.6 " LOW AT 200yds AND 30.3" LOW AT 300yds. THE ORIGINAL ADVERTISED SPECS WERE 4.1" & 27.8" LOW AT 200 & 300 yds. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THIS AMMUNITION BECAUSE IT WAS RELATIVLY HOT FOR A FACTORY LOAD. THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE. I HAVE NOT SHOT THIS NEW LOT FOR ACCURACY. NOT INTERESTED IN SHOOTING ANOTHER LAME 45-70 LOAD.

The best period
The new Hornady Lever-Evolution ammo for the 45-70 is the absolute best factory ammo that I have ever shot. I have a H&R 1871 Buffalo Classic with a 32" barrel and the factory peep sights, and I can shoot 1" groups at 100 yards all day. If you are looking for a great brush buster round with supreme accuracy and tons of real knockdown power, this is it.

Great Accuracy, below average close-range knockdn
I was so excited to see Hornady come out with this line of ammunition. I've deer hunted with my Marlin 30-30 for 20 years and I wouldn't trade it for any other gun where I hunt. I hunt thick woods and have probably killed 80% of the deer I've shot with it, within 50 yds. Recently I have started hunting with a freind at his camp where long range, 200-300 yard, shots are common. I bought a savage .270 bolt to hunt with there. A year later Hornady releases the Leverevolution line. There is no doubt the bullets are by far the most accurate I've ever shot through my 30-30. Incredible! My only complaint is last week I shot a 180 lb, 8-point 3 times within 40 yds before the buck dropped. All three shots were in the kill zone. I have yet to get the chance to shoot one over a 100 yds with the new Hornadys, I'm sure I could hit one up to 250 yds, but I would not recommend these for close range at all. The 8-point had 3 entrance holes and 3 exit wounds, all well placed. I guess the bullets velocity was just so great it just went right through with no knockdown energy. I've never had the 130 gr. Remmington coreloks i use to shoot behave that way at 40 yds. Most everyone I know that hunts with a 30-30 has another gun for long shots, myself included. These bullets are extremely accurate but at 250 yds I'd rather be shooting my .270. I was just disappointed because I hoped the bullets would give me longer range with the 30-30, without sacrificing the close range knockdown power I love the gun for. There is no more accurate a bullet out there, I'm convinced of that, but for close range (up to 100 yds) I prefer the remmington corelokt.

Steroids for 30/30
I have hunted with a 30/30 for several years and shot lots of deer with it. The only thing I hated was it was only good to about 150 yards. Read the reviews about this new ammo and had to try it out. Sited gun in at range and was getting 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Tried it at 200 yards it shot about 4" low from my 100 yard zero. My eleven year old daughter shot a doe with it on the youth hunt. The old nanny ran about 30 yards and dropped like a rock. Shot two deer with it already and both dropped in their tracks. The exit wounds I'm getting with this new ammo looks more like I'm shooting an '06.
