High-carbon steel with an ultra-fine cutting edge. Sharpens hooks razor sharp. Silicone coated.

I would recommend this file if the "grit" was finer, maybe "mega fine". The ultra fine grit was not fine enough to get the hooks as sharp as I like them. The handle is a nice addition but could be made more slip proof for use in the boat to re-sharpen hooks while fishing.

I don't recommend this product as the sharpening grooves are way to rough for fine hook sharpening, I have another brand that has "fine" cutting edges and it works well this one does not come close. Maybe it will work on horse shoes?

I've had this file for years! It works well! It does the trick for all my in-line spinners and other hooks. It puts a nice sharp point on the hooks and it has helped me hook more fish! It is not a hone, it is not a coarse file. It is a light grit file that works well for the purpose that it was intended for! No more no less! There are better products out there, but for the price it does a great job! keep it dry, use it with a light touch on smaller hooks, and it should work fine!

I purchased this hook file based upon the favorable reviews posted about it.
The file I received does not work very well, accually it does not work as well as the old rusty file i tossed.
Definately would not recomment this to anyone.
