When was the last time you saw an all metal large arbor disc drag fly reel at this price? The answer is "never," unless you already own a Hobbs Creek. We don't like plastic reels. They're cheaper to manufacture, but nobody likes to lose a fish because of a warped spool, or a broken part. The rugged Hobbs Creek fly reel was designed to serve you for many seasons with a minimum of care. Experience the performance of a smooth disc drag and a large arbor design, and have change left over for gasoline and flies!Hobbs Creek Large Arbor Spare Spool sold separately and can be found through item search for sku number 949540.

I own some very expensive reels, I've owned some cheap ones. So far this reel performs above its price point in comparison. I bought it as a back up, but use it most of the time now.
Now keep in mind, I bought this reel for warm water fish.........bass, pike, etc. None of which are known for their reel screaming runs. However, given the structure those fish inhabit, I do have to stop some rather large fish from doing what they want. So far, the reel has performed very well.
My only concern at this point is durability, and only time will tell that story. If I were to nit-pick, I'd say things could be easier for switching retrieves. My experience has been positive, and I would currently recommend this reel. Great for a backup or as a starter reel. I use it most of the time.

The large arbor style of the reel is very nice.
The capacity is also nice also. The one drawback is that you will have to really crank the drag setting to get any drag out of the reel. This is not a problem with most trout. Just wait till you need the drag on a better then average fighter and you will have to palm the reel. The price is good so your never going to lose that way. Spend a little more money and buy the latest version of this large arbor reel with a large drag setting knob and some stopping power. The Bass Pro Shop people really try but this reels comes up a little short.

Recently bought my second Hobbs Creek reel to replace a low end more expense competitor's reel that literally fell apart on me. Not a fancy reel, but well built, durable, and a real reel bargain for the price. I also purchased spares for each reel, and can now swap 4 lines quickly and easily all for a very reasonable price.
