This is a good little combo if you want a quality combo without breaking the bank. Only thing I didn't like was the line they put on it. It's rough and causes drag when reeling and casting. Invest in a better line and problem solved.

I bought this Fly Rod and Reel combo about a month ago based on the recommendation of the guy's in your fly shop. I was a little worried that I bought something that would not last very long but I think I will have this rod and reel for quite a long time. I have been very happy with this rod and reel. I'm new to fly fishing and have been practicing casting for a few weeks in the front yard. Today I caught my first trout with the pole in a small local stream and the pole performed perfectly. I would highly recommend this for the fly fisherman just getting started or on a budget - works perfectly!

this is the worst rod ive ever used. ive used $30 rods better than this you might as well get a long stick and tie line to it with no hook and it just as good and that is an understatement. the best thing about this rod is the case that comes with it and thats it. the case is worth more than the rod.

Great fly rod and reel. I used it last week while fishing in my float tube. Caught one nice rainbow. This fish weighed about 3lbs. The rod and reel handled real nice. The only problem I had was ordering it. It came with a tippet and all you had to do was tie your fly and fish. I used the rod and reel two times all day. Not really much of a test but it worked like a rod and reel should.

I've never setup a reel before and was surprised to have received this combo unassembled.How much backing should I apply to the reel before I tie on the fly line? i've searched forums and the best answer has been to 'wing it'. That's not good enough for me.
Should I use the entire spool of backing that came in the combo?

Most fly fishers fill the spool of the reel with as much backing as possible to allow them to retrieve faster and to reduce line memory. Thereby the line is less likely to tangle. Read the reel capacity chart to determine the amount of backing needed for the reel.

I went ahead and spooled the entire amount of the backing provided, tied it to and then spooled the fly line - it was the appropriate amount of both.This might depend upon the weight of the line you order, but I could be incorrect. I ordered mine with 5 weight
