The H&R Ultra Slug 12 Gauge Single Shot Shotgun w/24" Rifled Barrel and Laminated Stock has combined the heavy barrel concept of the Ultra Varmint rifle to achieve a level of accuracy previously unheard of in firearms below the 1,000 mark. The Ultra Slug incorporates the transfer bar safety system, a heavy action, and an extremely heavy wall in its rifled 24'' barrel. Comes with a 3" chamber, scope mount, and laminated stock. Blued finish.

Mine is definetly a shooter. 2-3 MOA at 100 yds. It kicks like a mule even though its a really heavy gun. Itll kick your teeth out so man up. Slug guns are real fussy eaters but mine likes feds. Gonna shoot some Hornadays soon in 2 3/4. Not enough difference in those and 3 inch ballistic wise but recoil is less. Use a 4X fixed power.

How is the recoil on the 12 and 20 gauge models. Comparable to an 870? I shoot 2 3/4 Winchester sabot slugs.

I have one in 20gauge. The kick is much less than an 870 or other gun. The Ultra Slug's heavy barrel helps tone the kick down. I use 3" Remington Accu-tip shells which will kick harder than many others you could use to get the recoil even lower. I have never been able to get a gun to shoot a slug like the H&R I use now.Details:Â
What are the best shells to use in this gun?Answers

I have had the best luck with Remington shells such as Copper Solid, Accu-tip, Core Lokt...but my favorite is the 3" 20 ga. Accu-tip. Perfect deer load.1 of 1
