The only multi-tool you need
Gerber wasn't the first to make the Multi tool but they sure did perfect it!
I have only owned 3 of the Gerber's over the past 20 years. I use them almost daily. I still own the very first tool I was ever given. They have lasted that long. I have however, broken a few blades and pliers along the way but with Gerber's warranty, its not an issue. I cant tell you off the top of my head what the actual stated warranty is, but I was using the needle nose pliers to pry an elevator door open and broke one. Even after telling Gerber what I had done, they replaced the entire tool free of charge. I was only out the shipping to them. Same goes for knife blades and screw driver blades. I can honestly say that I have not broken a blade while using it for what it was intended for. Its always when I'm prying something or using it as a hammer. With that said, their warranty is top notch.
I carry one of these on duty with me 5 days a week. I can't tell you the amount of time I have used this on duty to help myself or someone else. Back in 2003, I pulled up to an accident with a vehicle starting to catch on fire. Seatbelt was jammed and would not free. I had left my pocket knife at home and remembered that I had my Gerber on my belt. I was able to cut it free and pull the women out. I know any sharp knife blade would do the same, but how many times to you carry a back up knife? Having a multi tool that also has a knife blade if needed, is very reassuring to me.
I have one in my truck, on my duty belt and in the kitchen junk drawer. Its sad, but even with tools everywhere, I always go back for my Gerber. Its just very convenient to have everything you need all in one. I think every cop, deputy EMS and firefighter should carry one of these. The uses are endless on what it can do.
