Gerber Gator Jr. Machete
like other reviews, this machete does not have a finished edge, it has a good start but must be finished with a file and rock. I like the design of the handle and the size and would recommend this to anyone that hunts in the wire brush as there is no bulk to it.

I originally bought the Gerber JR to chop down overgrown weeds while Im fishing from the bank. I figured the smaller version would be more convenient to carry on me, but the downside is that the blade is too short. I find my self scraping my knuckles on whatever I am cutting and when I get to thorny weeds, it can be a pain!. I have had to change the method that I cut down stuff by pushing the weeds away with my boot and chopping the roots or stems. As others have mentioned, the blade does not come sharpened so cutting through stuff will take a little more effort. I tried the saw out on a 5" thick branch and though it cut through fine, it was still a chore. The grip on the Gator JR is very comfortable and the best I have seen on a machete. It cuts through logs fine and is perfect for splitting kindling. This machete works fine for those purposes, but If you are expecting to slice through jungles and rough cover, id recommend going with the longer version. I would have rated it at 5 stars, if the blade came sharpened or more of an edge.

Had to sharpen it right out of the box but tht was ok as the blade and saw were covered with paint. After that saw works much quicker than what I expected. Light enough to carry but still heavy enough to get the job done. Great product.

Gerber® Gator Jr. Machete
Only had this machete a short while, but so far no problems with it. It was sharp, out of the package.Have done a little trimming with it in the backyard. I bought it to trim small branches when I'm deer hunting.
