Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife
I was skeptical of this with Bear Grylls name on it, thought Gerber would just make it and slap his name on it. I was wrong, being that Gerber is a great knife anyway, adding Bears name only made it better since I can only assume Bear helped with the design. I bought 2, one for my son and one for me, his came out of the package with a really nice edge, super sharp, mine was dull. But I think this may be on purpose from Gerber to try and avoid some fool taking it straight out of the box and slicing a finger off. I can agree with that logic, I can sharpen it myself. Overall tho, it is a super knife and of very high quality. I am thinking of getting another one to put up for emergencies and also looking into the Gerber machete! Also like the survival tip leaflet it comes with! Highly recommend this!

Better than expected
I was very leery of this knife only because of the Bear Grylls name stamped all over it. I'm a fan of ol' BG, but don't like celebrity endorsed products. That being said...
This knife is great. Feels solid, nice balance, and the blade is thick. It seems like a bit much with all the "extras", but the whistle is loud and no bigger than a knot would be on the rope. The hammer head has been pretty sturdy so far (I'm not building with it and try not to use it unless necessary). The sharpener is decent at home, but phenomenal to have out in the woods. The 'firestarter' throws big sparks. The survival guide could help you signal for help & lays out pretty standard survival tips, but could be useful to a novice.
My only issue is the sheath. It would be fine without the canvas backing. The plastic itself is awesome, it locks the knife in without worry, no need to strap it in. Unfortunately, it does not have any way to attach it to a belt or even a clip. When you unstrap it to get to the sharpener, you can see how unnecessary the canvas is aside from providing belt loops (which are too small anyway)

After hearing the mixed reviews about this knife when it first came out I was hesitant about buying one. But man this is an awesome knife. Nice and sturdy feeling. It really does feel like a survival knife should feel like. I really like the rubberized handle on it too. Really grippy. The whistle is loud and the fire steel on it works great. My only complaint is it's not that sharp out of the box. But a little time on the stone can take care of that. If you're in the market for a survival knife i'd definitely recommend this one.
