I bought this knife simply because I wanted it. but I didn't know how useful it would be. just don't throw it at trees too much. the finish does come off. the handle also does come off if you are rough with it. but I will bet my farm on the toughness of the blade.

I really don't have a whole lot of experience with these types of knives. I can tell you that the survival extras are really good and that the knife itself is made well. The first thing that I noticed was the weight. very well balanced.

For the money this knife is a well thought out design exceding my expectations. Were it not for The Gerber brand, I may not have tried it. I was pleasntly surprised. Sharp. I have more expensive knives that are not as good.

I bought the Bear Grylls fixed blade a few years back as a tester knife for me. I own myself about 5-6 dozen knives, so i figured why not give it a shot. When i got home and opened it up to see more then i realized when it was on the shelf. It has a thick rubber handle which is comfortable & absorbed alot of the impact shock, at the end of the handle is an emergency whistle attached. The blade is also well made of carbon steel so holds its edge a long time & also makes it harder to bend or snap. Half of the blade is serrated so good for cutting rope or stripping things. Now for the sheath the part that blew my mind, blade is secure so does not have any play also straps around handle for more support. Also attached is a fire striker which is held in tight so you wont loose it, yes it actually works i have started plenty of fires with it. The part now that blew my mind was i saw another velcro strap so i undid it the sheath folded over for me to find a nice diamond sharpening stone which made this knife now perfect. This is the perfect knife for any outdoors people, it has everything you need for a fun day. I recommend this knife it about $60 and i look forward to many more years with it.
