Tested and proven on California lunkers, Gary Yamamoto's Senko has quickly become a sensation throughout the United States. The Senko is salt impregnated, has a healthy profile, casts like a bullet, and features a unique smooth-and-even horizontal fall when fished weightless or wacky style. Yamamoto Senkos are not magic, but pretty darn close.

Gary Yamamoto Senko - 5'' 4.7 5 369 370
Ruining me as Bass Fisherman These work so well I find it hard to use different techniques in the clear water I fish in. I will be catching fish using the Senko, then try something new, and see my catch rates drop. I go back to the Senko, and start catching fish at an accelerated rate again. These work so well I have children catching nice Bass with them the first time out. If I could only use one lure the rest of my life it would be the Senko. July 21, 2009
Senko Baits Are Simply The Best Since discovering Yamamoto Senko Baits at a fishing demonstration about two years ago, I've used almost nothing else. They simply out-perform everything else I've tried, it's really quite amazing. The 5" Senko doesn't look fancy, but it catches fish consistently. It has enough weight to cast quite far without a sinker, and is easy to rig weedless on a worm hook. For some reason, Senko baits just trigger strike after strike, I don't understand why, but they do. I've told several other people about them, and they've had similar results. I never go out now without a full compliment of Yamamoto baits in my tackle box! June 29, 2007
Best soft bait period This is the best senko/ soft bait ever. I went to the lake this morning in my kayak and caught about 17 largemouth bass all sizes from less than a pound to 5 pounds. THis lure is deadly when wacky rigged with three split shots about 1 and a 1/2 feet up the line with power pro 50 pound braid and a 14 pound fluorocarbon 2 foot leader. The best color is watermelon with red and black flakes. September 17, 2012
Excellent bait The 5" pink Senko is absolutely deadly in the lake and rivers I fish in the Chesterfield, Va area. It casts further, lasts longer, and swims better than the competitors I've used in the past. Rigged straight up or wacky style I have great success pulling in 2-4 pound largemouths in a variety of water conditions. I'm still exploring these waterways looking for the honey holes that hold the largest fish. I have complete confidence this bait will bring the 5+ to me! September 5, 2012

This is my first year with a baitcaster, so I'm no pro, but I think I'm pretty good with it already. Unfortunately fishing worms weightless is best in my area due to how weedy our waters are. Will I be alright using these without a weight? Or should I stick to spinning rods for my worming?

Absolutely. This worm casts further than its competitors but costs more. Believe me, it's worth it. The wacky worm technique works well also.

i used them on both set ups, spinning rod for dock fishing and baitcasting for open weed beds, these baits are heavy enough to fish on a baitcaster without getting a birds nest granted the reel is set right, i will be useing these baits over the other more expensive brands, in my own opinion i think they work just as good

I think you should stick to using the 5 inch worm, it is plenty big for bass that size. The bigger worms are just to big for bass that size.

Have tried many styles of the larger worms, but have never had much success. Don't know about your area in MI, but I would stick with Yama senko's in 5" and 4". They always do the job.

It is outstanding rigged texas, carolina, wacky, weighted or unweighted. There are guys in my club who ONLY fish senkos every tournament and are almost always in the $$$.

In my humble opinion it is the best without question. I have been using it for several years now, and whether Texas or wacky I always bring in fish which is more than many club members that fish with other brands can say. Pick a few good colors for your area and stick with them. You'll see what I mean.

Yes it is, unless the hydrilla is an extremely solid mass of vegetation. Make sure you texas rig it though if it's packed close together, or if it's not and you want to wacky rig the worm, use a weedless hook. This lure works everywhere, around rocks, in weeds, anywhere you can think of.

Yes, I fish them every where. In weeds, the T rig works the best and gets hung up less.
Use Bass pro slip sinkers, the weight depends on your situation, but I stay as light as possible and still get the job done.

A:
This is a good lure to fish around any type of cover. One of the favorite ways to fish a Senko is Wacky Rigging, however, a weightless Texas rig also works well. The lure has a slower sink rate than most, so it makes a really great finesse lure that can cover all portions of the water column.

One of the lakes I fish in has pretty clear water but has a lot of basketball size rocks that line the bottom. I usually have a hard time fishing a texas rigged worm with out getting jammed up in the rocks so I have been hesitant to fish wacky rigged. I was wondering if putting a bobber a foot or two above the hook to keep the hook off the bottom will cause too much commotion or even work?

Fish it weightless and wacky rigged. A good idea is to use wacky o-rings. Let it sink to the bottom and jig it about 6" - 1' and let it fall back down as you retrieve it.

Sure, lots of times in bass fishing you have to think outside the box. I suggest you use one of the clear plastic floats used for spinning rather than a bright colored one.

A:
Possibly, bobbers are used often when fishing soft plastics but this mainly pertains to swimbaits. Judging just from the information you have provided I would likely use a weightless worm in this situation if I were using soft plastics. I prefer the Senko or the Ring Fry.

A:
If you fish the wacky rig weightless with a smallish circle hook you'll have more luck than with it hanging lifeless under a bobber. A very slow fall to the bottom often triggers a strike. Once it hits bottom, let it sit still giving very little twitches every 5-10 seconds. After 30-40 seconds, raise your rod tip way up and let the bait fall again. Repeat until you've back to shore/boat. You'll most often get the strike on the fall or when it's dead sticked on the bottom, so watch your line for twitches that you might not feel.

Don't think bobber would be good idea..You can keep fron getting snagged by hooking through middle of senko like you would normal wacky but after you run hook through senko ,just bring the point of hook back up into senko thus not havng exposed point.. most of time bass hit senko on the fall..Also in very clear water try making longer casts and stay farther from bank

I would not use a bobber...you want to be able to get a lot of action with your worm...i dont think you will get hung too often rigging it wacky.

A lot of people do this and it works. Not a bad idea. I'm using a drop shot. You can control the height by how much distance you have from the weight to the bait. I have lost two hooks trying this on a river only. I let the current take it too much. Outside of that, it's a decent way to fish and works great.

This is my go-to rig. Let the worm glide down on a slack line, let it set for a while then raise it up a few feet, then let it glide down again, then repeat this several times. Watch your line for any movement or the feel of pressure. Take your time and hit the same general area several times. Use Gamakatsu finesse hooks in 3/0, and try different color worms to see which they like that day.

when fishing senko type lures wacky.. the Idea is to look like an injured prey and as it falls it quivers slightly. Most strikes occur when it is falling..I throw it at lay downs weed bed edges rocks etc and let it fall .once it hits the water close your bail and take up any slack line and then watch you line and you can tell that its still falling by the line sinking and it a fish hits ityou will see a quick jerk in your line , at that point slowly take up slack or pick up on rod tip but dont try to set hook too quickly at this point you should be feeling fish ,,a big bass will head toward deeper water if you are in boat lots of times they are coming right towards boat ,,Make sure theres no slack in line and then CROOS its eyes with a strong upwards jerk with rod .. Try different lengths and colors..I like the 4' with # 2 hook. when you gat the hang of it you will love it. make sure your drag is not too tight because if it's too tight you may break line if you have a big hog on when you set the hook ,Letting bass run with senko for short distance will insure he has bait swallowed.

This is the best smallmouth lure I have ever used. I fish it standard or wacky and they kill it.

Huh that is interesting. I wonder how you are fishing it? Also it is possible that this is just a fluke occurance. However I will tell you how i fish them. I always Texas rig them on a 4/0 worm hook. I DO NOT add any weight, if you do it kills the action of the worm. I cast near any type of cover that may be holding finicky bass. Just let the worm sink while keeping just a little slack in your line. Leave the bait alone for at least 10 seconds. Watch for the line to straighten out or for light ticks that you will feel. If you do not get a strike off the initial fall of the bait slowly lift your rod tip about 6 inches then let it fall again. Do this 2 or 3 times and if you get nothing then reel back in. I always swim it back in like a swimbait because believe it or not it works that way too. Continue repeating this process and you are sure to catch them with this awesome bait. Always remember to just be patient and work it slow. the fall of the bait is what produces strikes not the action created by the fisherman. The best colors tend to be Green Pumpkins and Watermelons.

Do you let it fall all the way to the bottom? Once it hits bottom raise the rod slowly and let it fall again. During the fall you have to make sure you have a slack line there can be no tightness at all. Green pumpkin is most productive for me.
