Bought this to go hunting with. Will be in swamp area. This will do more than needed, but the extra features are nice to have. Turn it on, place in pocket, it does the rest. Mark your starting point, you can customize to show your tracks on the journey or not. You can name your waypoints and use it as a compass I downloaded the topo map from the website to a micro card, for the extra street maps and topo coverage. I can carry it in pocket on my motorcycle when traveling. Good battery life. Only drawback is you need to download full manual from website.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MydogsRule Happy with Etrex
Ordered the Garmin Etrex 20, Bass Pro had the best price I found online, and they delivered it pretty quickly. I had no experience with GPS, but after exerting a little effort the Etrex 20 is fairly straightforward and easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Dog5235 Great Product - Poor Shipping
The eTrex 20 works great and I have used it numerous times for geocaching and hiking. It has many more features than my other eTrex, which is the basic model that I have had for at least 8-10 years. I ordered my new eTrex 20 online on Dec. 8th and received it on Dec. 17th inspite of the fact that I payed extra for 3 day shipping. After numerous phone calls and emails, I was refunded the extra shipping and presented a $25 dollar gift credit for future purchases at Bass Pro. This all could have been prevented because someone marked the shipping box that batteries were contained and that was a huge mistake. The USPS requires special handling for packages containing batteries which slowed the shipping process to a crawl. This product DOES NOT include batteries! I have always had great service with the local Bass Pro store and will continue to shop there but I will be careful when ordering online.

Very close, depending on how you have the zoom set. The more you zoom in, the tighter the field of view on the screen is. It can bring you within feet of where you started. Hope this helps.A:Â
The waypoint will likely be within 30 feet. With this unit you can use waypoint averaging to help you achieve the most accurate position possible. I've included links to information directly from Garmin below.http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupd...

I believe you can check the Garmin website for some nautical maps. I know they have some available. I believe if you select a starting waypoint, you can fine your way back. Also, this unit does have the compass feature on it. Hope this helps.A:Â
This unit will still show your position when you are out on the water, and is even compatible with lake maps available through Garmin.Answers

It is easy to use. The speed will effect what you see as your location. The slower you go, the slower the image moves, likewise when you speed up. Same as your GPS does in the vehicle.A:Â
Yes, this unit is easy to use on a lake. Speed will not affect this units ability to acquire and maintain position.Details:Â

If I know the GPS coordinates of a location can the coordinates be entered into the GPS to take me to the location?Answers
A:Â
Yes, by setting a waypoint and changing its coordinates to the coordinates you desire, the waypoint will be changed to your destination instead of your current location. You can then select the waypoint and navigate to it.Thanks

A:Â
I just poked around my Etrex Venture HC and went toMain Menu (click on the top button on the right, as you look at the screen, until you scroll around to Main Menu)
Setup
System
The screen shows a list of System Setup options.
Scroll to highlight the Text Language window.
Click on it and a list of languages opens up.
Scroll to English (if necessary to scroll) and click on that.
That should do it.

Is this unit compatible with Humingbird SD memory cards?Answers

I used a DaneElec micro SD card in mine. It is about four years old. I downloaded the topo map from the Garmin website to it. Works fine. I would submit that question to Garmin. I would hope that a good micro SD card work.A:Â

This unit does NOT have an electronic compass as mentioned below. If you want an electronic compass take a look at the Garmin eTrex 30, item 38-534-544-00. I have included the link to the eTrex 30 below.http://www.basspro.com/Garmin-eTrex...

You can purchase Garmin's TOPO U.S. 24K South Central DVD. The DVD "includes BaseCampâ„¢ software for managing data on your GPS and shows terrain contours, topo elevations, summits, routable roads and trails, parks, coastlines, rivers, lakes and geographical points."If you primary interest is lakes you may consider Garmin Lakes Vision - South Central which displays "detailed shorelines, shaded depth contours, coastlines, streams, channels, boat ramps, fuel stations, marinas, campgrounds and fishing locations (where available)."
Both mapping options are available to purchase through Garmin.
