Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product We have four of these gps in our hunting group. They are user friendly, compact and compatible with the Garmin BaseCamp Topo program on my computer. You can download selected topo to the GPS trek in the field then down load data and waypoints back into the BaseCamp program. With the Ariel Sat. portion of the program the waypoints, reference points etc. all are visible making it a very useful tool in planning treks or identifying where the waypoint is quickly on Sat. Imagery. The unit is compact and the screen is the perfect size and standard in the industry . If you need to look at a specific area you just zoom in to make the area larger. If you backpack where size, weight means everything this unit does the job and more without paying $100 more for the current release model. Garmin Customer Support has been very helpful when we needed to learn all the features of this unit. A good bang for our $$$. May 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Beware! Buyer Beware!Even though Garmin as been around for a long time,Their software-BaseCamp has so many flaws,That it becomes frustrating to use.BirdsEye is just as bad and you have to pay extra for that.Their Gps`s work fine but coupled with BaseCamp and BirdsEye it`s not worth the money.I would look to another GPS manufacture that has User friendly software. This is my 3rd Garmin GPS and just like baseball Garmin your OUT!If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Rated 5 out of 5 by Exceeded expectations This was my first hand held GPS unit, having previously relied on cell phone apps. The cell phone apps quickly kill my battery AND they struggle to stay synced with a satellite in areas I hunt. This GPS performed far beyond what I hoped for. It is compact, but with a screen large enough to be useable. It never lost its position and it lasted more than 24 hours on 1 pair of batteries. After playing with it the first day to learn the controls I was able to use it to mark our stand locations as a friend and I hunted a special draw archery hunt in an area neither one of us had ever been. I even used the map I downloaded for free to plot a successful change to my stand location. This GPS just might become my favorite piece of hunting gear,(after my Hoyt). October 19, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by !st GPS Bought this to go hunting with. Will be in swamp area. This will do more than needed, but the extra features are nice to have. Turn it on, place in pocket, it does the rest. Mark your starting point, you can customize to show your tracks on the journey or not. You can name your waypoints and use it as a compass I downloaded the topo map from the website to a micro card, for the extra street maps and topo coverage. I can carry it in pocket on my motorcycle when traveling. Good battery life. Only drawback is you need to download full manual from website. April 22, 2013

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. Yes, this device will display the speed on the map screen as long as you set it up as a data field. Also it will leave a track to show where you have been. Below are the instructions on how to add data fields on your eTrex 20 device:

How do I edit the data fields on the map page of my eTrex 10, 20 or 30?

It is possible to add data fields to the map page on the eTrex 10, 20 and 30. These data fields can be customized to display desired data while still viewing the map.
To customize data fields:
1. Select the map page
2. Press Menu
3. Select Setup Map
4. Select Data Fields
5. Select the number of data fields to add
6. Press Back to return to the Map page
7. Press Menu
8. Select Change Data Fields
9. Select the existing data field to be replaced
10. Select a new data field from list
11. Select and replace any other data fields desired
12. Press Back when complete

No ...AA batteries only which is actually much better. If your out a few days or longer. The chargeable units run out of battery life after a couple of days and without a charging source your gps is done. Batteries are a safer way to go if your life depends on that gps. Always carry extra batteries.

I don't know about your states BUT, I did a little Google research and in less than an hour, I had an excellent topo of my state installed, free. I think I tried the Geocacheing web sites for info, they had a LOT of help available online.

The basemap is very basic so there will be limited detail on any kind of park perimeters. You will probably want a TOPO map for more detail. Bird's eye does not come with the device.

Very close, depending on how you have the zoom set. The more you zoom in, the tighter the field of view on the screen is. It can bring you within feet of where you started. Hope this helps.

The waypoint will likely be within 30 feet. With this unit you can use waypoint averaging to help you achieve the most accurate position possible. I've included links to information directly from Garmin below.

It gets it's data from the Sat. Wether your on land or water. Set/store a waypoint at the launch ramp or at fishing spots and when you enter that waypoint it will take back every time to within 1 yard of the location.

I believe you can check the Garmin website for some nautical maps. I know they have some available. I believe if you select a starting waypoint, you can fine your way back. Also, this unit does have the compass feature on it. Hope this helps.

This unit will still show your position when you are out on the water, and is even compatible with lake maps available through Garmin.

It is easy to use. The speed will effect what you see as your location. The slower you go, the slower the image moves, likewise when you speed up. Same as your GPS does in the vehicle.

Yes, by setting a waypoint and changing its coordinates to the coordinates you desire, the waypoint will be changed to your destination instead of your current location. You can then select the waypoint and navigate to it.

I just poked around my Etrex Venture HC and went to
Main Menu (click on the top button on the right, as you look at the screen, until you scroll around to Main Menu)
Setup
System
The screen shows a list of System Setup options.
Scroll to highlight the Text Language window.
Click on it and a list of languages opens up.
Scroll to English (if necessary to scroll) and click on that.

That should do it.
