Not a bad deal A little common sense goes a long way in figuring out how to use this unit. No there is not a user manual but if you actually read the instructions and play with it for a few minutes then it works fine.it is not exact but gets you going in the right direction. Mostly bought to retrace my steps while hunting so I could get back to camp. November 16, 2014
Weird Issues Bought this specifically for the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon and was very disappointed to see it added about 50% to all distances. 1.5 Mile resthouse was showing as 2.6 miles on the Garmin, 2.5 Mile resthouse was at 4.5 and Indian Garden which is 4.5 miles on every trail guide showed as 7.6 on this Garmin despite a total reset and 5-6 satellites showing most of the time. When I asked Garmin they said to turn on the Glonas and WAAS option to improve accuracy, but off by 50%, come on! I guess I will keep it for other hikes. October 20, 2014
Great Basic GPS Unit This GPS doesn't have all the bells and whistles that higher priced units have. It doesn't have topo maps but if you are looking for a basic GPS to locate waypoints, and get you to and from them again at a low price, you will be very happy with this unit. It does the job it is intended to do very well. Very easy to use and get familiar with after a few minutes of playing around with it before you head out into the woods or water. I used this unit to save waypoints while fishing on the Great Lakes and never had a negative thing to say about it. It saves waypoints as numbers (eg. 001# but you can easily change the number to whatever name you want #eg. Ramp, Blind, Truck etc) Picks up satellites quick and stays on them. If you want features, this probably isn't your unit, but it works great and you will not have any issues with the user-friendly controls September 23, 2014
Easy to use and does what it claims I use this for tracking and setting waypoints while fishing and duck hunting. My main reason for buying this was to be a able to back track through the swamps when it is pitch black here in Florida (I think it is the trail feature that does this). It has worked great, I also take coordinates from wrecks offshore and good hunt locations on internet maps and put them into the GPS. It is not a fancy GPS that shows terrain...but it does everything it claims. You do have the ability to rename your waypoints. I highly suggest you take a couple hours and just play with the GPS to learn all the features. Also, get the high grade batteries, they work great and last a while. I like to set the screen on low brightness to help conserve battery life. July 10, 2013

I need to be able to park my boat and walk in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. It has alot of areas surrounded by rivers, do the base maps show bodies of water?

Answers

A:
No, it has very limited information on bodies of water. The Great Lakes and Oceans are just about the only bodies of water it will show with a few exceptions.

Yes! I used this unit for fishing Waypoints. It survived being dropped into the lake, bouncing around the bottom of the boat, and torrential downpours. Water and weather are no issues for this unit!

Yes, BUT limited to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7, so a prolonged submersion can cause damage.

A:
The Garmin eTrex® 10 just has a preloaded basemap and does not accept additional mapping. Instead you may consider the Garmin eTrex® 20 which does accept additional mapping. Garmin does sell Equestrian mapping that currently covers trails in 16 states.

This mapping is available directly through Garmin.
