Experienced GPS users will be disappointed with the 450T. The extra cost for the Topo 100k software is not worth it. The included mapping software is not routeable so don't expect the GPS to find the quickest way to your favorite fishing hole. The user has to download the base camp software to upload user tracks and way points and you can only use the topo with the GPS plugged in. You may not print any of the maps from the base camp software.
You can upload custom geo referenced raster maps, but you are limited to the size and number present on the unit at any given time. With user memory relatively inexpensive it is unclear why this limitation is imposed.
The touch screen is an added improvement but navigating the menu is not very intuitive. Some features such as the proximity waypoint found in other Garmin models is not available in the Garmin 450/450t..
I can't recommend this product for the price its being offered. Save some money and buy one of the color extrex's.

Have used this one for about one year. I added the street maps chip for northamerica and the car kit. Now I am good to go on or off road, and the device has never let me down. Used it in Michigan last week out in the boonies. It was my best friend.
The topo map is great for scouting high and low grouond for hunting. This was a huge step up from my GPSMAP60.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EddyC Glad I finally broke down and got me one..
After several years with my old trusty Garmin 76 and before that my old Garmin 12, I felt I needed an upgrade...Several hunting buddies have the Garmin 450t's and all raved about it..Well I broke down, scratched "the budget" and got one for myself! Great investment! Complete coverage everywhere I have been, even under the cypress heads and other deep covered woods... Would I recommend it? Every chance I get! Take a kid hunting!!!
