Rated 5 out of 5 by Gotta' break it in... I've been in the military for decades and I'm a trained marksman. I shoot competitively and since I enjoy the hobby - I thought the Gamo Varmint Hunter would be a fun/inexpensive way to shoot just for the fun of it. Out of the box - I had a difficult time zeroing the scope. In fact, I had a hard time grouping at short range from a completely supported position. My initial impression of the rifle wasn't very good. But... FINALLY after almost 75 rounds - it's shooting and grouping very well. I've paired it with Crossman's Premier .177 cal pellets and the performance seems to be improving with every group. A very nice pellet rifle and scope combo for the price. July 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Nice I bought the predecessor to this air gun and originally was disappointed. I contacted GAMO and they encouraged me to continue shooting threw a break in period. I will say if you stay with the more expensive pellets once it's broken in, it is deadly!!! I've killed quiet a few squirrels with it!! July 21, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Power Very accurate for the power it has. Lots of power for small game. Aim for a vital spot and instant kill. No small game can hide from this gun. Great gun for the money. Its a little loud with pba ammo though but i like noise. June 8, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 a hunters purchase i shoot competition high power, and i am used to very accurate guns, this gamo is exeptionnally accurate for the speeds at wich the pellet travels. i am a full time squirrell hunter, and this gun destroys a squirrell. it works best with lightweight pellets and polymer tip pellets. The best and most accurate for GAMO guns is probably the Gamo PBA Platinum pellets. They give you the full potential of the fps the gun has, but also are pretty expensive. (about $18 per 100)

Yes, it probably could, make sure to check things like the internet/books and see were vital organs are located on the woodchuck so it can be a clean kill.

I bought the Nitro Venom Dusk about a week ago, and had to return it due to a problem with the scope, the gun itself was great and very powerful. Yesterday I bought the Gamo Whisper and I did not like it very much, it lacked power, but did have good accuracy. Also, It sounded strange when fired like the plastic was vibrating to much or something. So how would this gun compare to a Nitro Venom Dusk and a Gamo Whisper?

i'm not a fan of the whisper series at all. This gun however is fantastic. The vibrating sound is because the stock is hollow. Get some gel shoe insoles. Take the back off the stock and stuff them in there. It makes a big differince. It doesn't sound like that when you aren't the one shooting.

I really can't compare to others. I do not use a scope as the sights on the gun are good enough and very accurate for me.

Not with any reliable ability to make humane kill.

If you need an air rifle to hunt coyote, please be humane and select a big bore airgun greater than .30 caliber and greater than 100 ft.-lbs muzzle energy.

I live in the desert and I see a lot of coyote's but I seriously doubt it take one down. When they had the coyote's "thinned" I couldn't tell you what type gun/pistol was used. But be careful because now we have a major rodent problem
