This is a decent slicer for the money. Most of the parts are well made and heavy duty. I have already cut 2 pounds of venison into 1/4" strips and it made excellent muscle jerky. It does cut well but the sliding mechanism to push the food into the blade is very difficult to manage. The design is excellent but the material used for this sliding mechanism is very poor. I will be shopping for better parts for this piece of the slicer. The problem is it doesn't move/slide easily so you have to play with it and sometimes it moves forward suddenly cramming your meat into the slicer. I've added some oil to it - didn't help much. I think I'll look at adding some Crisco to it now. Want to avoid grease as food can come into contact with it sometimes.

We first bought the $100 slicer... fine if you are slicing Bologna... very cheap, wimpy- Not good. Simply not strong enough. Cutting Chesses and cured meats was more than difficult. We decided to go 2 price steps up and this one works very well. Hi-Torque motor does the trick- No problem!
