Gamakatsu® Inline Circle Octopus Hooks - Model 2214 4.4 5 17 17
gamakatsu octopus circle hook worst hooks I have ever used. They do not set as tolded. I lost 3 nice fish trying to use them. I tried using them fishing dead bait in Canada and you couldn't get a hook set.I would not ever tell anyone to try them. May 26, 2014
Good Hook-Up Percentage but far from the best The inline version of Gamakatsu's circle hooks work better for me than the slightly offset versions. I prefer a point, barb, and shank in a perfectly straight line to optimize hook sets and put even pressure on the fish. These hooks will cover most applications. I personally like the 4/0 for a wide range of applications. The 5/0 and 6/0 handle a decent size piece of fin bait or chunk. I have read that these hooks due occasionally suffer from catastrophic failure (snap off, not bend), but with 30lb I have not had this happen. If you are really concerned about strength under serious conditions go with a circle hook from Owner. In my opinion they are the best all around company for bait hooks. RIP Jose Wejebe April 26, 2014
Terrible product I spend about six months a year bill fishing in the Sea of Cortez and enter several tournaments annually. IGFA rules (and local tournament rules as well)) require the use of non-offset circle hooks on natural bait so I have been using Gamakatsu circle hooks because they have a turned up eye and that makes for a neat snell. This summer on three separate occasions I have had these hooks break cleanly at the bend. This occurred with a measured 10# drag setting at strike and while hooked up to medium sized sailfish (75# +/-) The hooks showed zero evidence of straightening (they shouldn't have under these conditions anyway), they just snapped off. Under recreational fishing conditions this might be said to be a minor problem; under tournament conditions it is totally unacceptable. A single lost fish can, and often is, the difference in winning and losing and with serious money hanging in the balance a 50 cent hook failure cannot be tolerated. I have never experienced this problem with numerous other brands. Stay away from these. August 8, 2013
Very good I was a little bit worried about the size of the hook when I purchased them as there was no size image. I purchased the 6/0 size and it is the perfect size for my application. It measures 1 1/2" from the tip of the eyelet to the bottom of the bend and the gap between the point and the shank is just over 1/2". I am very pleased with this hook as it is very strong and has some flexibility to it. The point is also very very sharp out of the package as well. I would recommend this hook to anyone who is interested but recommend that they know the specific size they need. August 3, 2012
