Gamakatsu Round Bend Offset Worm Hooks 4.8 5 29 29
My first choice on hooks I used gamakatsu hooks since 1990. They let me reused two or three time my soft bait because his round and sharp points. I don't use any other hooks for my plastic worms than this gamakatsu model. September 22, 2010
sharp hooks probably the sharpest hooks on the market so they're more expensive. but, you get better penetration and more fish in the boat and that's what it's all about, right? great for most worms. if you like a fatter worm or lizards, craws, etc., you might want to go to the EWG hooks. these offset shank hooks tend to ball up the bait on the hook, which gives the bass a chance to spit the hook. however, a stiff rod with some heavy line may give you a chance to set the hook home hard without breaking you off. still, i think gamatkatsu is the premium hook on the market. Great Hooks These hooks are super sharp and are much better with a super fluke then an off set hook. It allows the bait to move much more naturally, and the fish don't feel it as much on the initial bit. This gives you more time to set the hook. Also the smaller sizes are great with trick and finesse worms. Same idea that the fish will not feel it because it stays flush with the worm. Just be careful, because I ended up gut hooking two different spotted bass because I was slow on setting the hook. They will swallow the hole thing before they ever consider spitting it out. Not so good after all... These hooks are indeed sharp, very sharp..but also very weak. I was a dedicated owner fan, but decided to give these a try. A few months ago, I had a bass BREAK one of these hooks in half. Ok, I thought, stuff happens right. So, I continued to use them until a trip to Lake James this April. A lot of big smallies on beds and was throwing a tube with the 3/0 hook on 10 line. If anything the line should break right? WRONG!! Another hook failure cost me about a 4-6 lb smalley. My partner couldn't believe it when I told him this was the second time. This hook will break at the lower bend given a big enough fish and believe me you don't want this happening then. May 19, 2008

A:
When choosing hook size your hook gap ( section between the point and shank) should be twice as thick as your bait.

A:
A 2/0 hook is designed for smaller baits and it can be used for a trick worm, especially if you are looking for a slow fall. If you are targeting fish over 3 lbs, I would opt for a larger hook. Also, a 2/0 hook is great for centipedes, 4" worms, and the smaller size (3 ") beaver type baits.

I have used this hook many times before and it is good for vitrutally anything. With a 2/0 hook I would suggest a 3 to 4 inch plastic worm texas rigged. I fish in farm ponds where there are many small to medium sized bass and this is a very solid rig to use all year round. My favorite color is pumpkinseed or black and pink. You can even add a bullet weight for more distance on casts and to fish it a bit deeper.
