Great item. Works fine outdoors as well as inside. The inner compartment seems a bit flimsy but it actually needs very little handling so should last awhile. The longer it perks the stronger it gets. To test how much water I'd need since it has been awhile since I used one of these, I took the amount of water and coffee I normally use in my drip machine. That gives a baseline. Then adjust from there. After a few tries you can tell how much of each you will need. Because I like really strong coffee I use more in this than in my drip machine. Using this reminds me of my childhood camp trips, and the smell will awaken the entire site.
As for that clip on part, if it seems too flimsy it can be removed entirely. How likely are you to loose the top?

works okay but the inside is very cheap, you have to be careful when moving to and from and around the camp site, real cheap lite tin hinge that holds the lid to the pot, it keeps falling off. it works but spend the extra money and buy a good coffee pot.

I live in a rural area that suffers an occasional power outage and this coffee pot along with a camp stove are a must. It would be helpful to have a small instruction sheet on how to make coffee for those not used to perculator coffee pots.
