Not much beats the stopping power of a 45 ACP for a duty or carry weapon. Mix that with 13 plus one rounds of said ammo, in weapon that is very reliable, you have one heck of a duty or home defense weapon. This the Glock 21.
My first department I worked for would allow the use of personal weapons in 45 ACP, 40 S&W or 9mm. I chose the Glock 21 for several reasons. Large capacity, consistent trigger pull, very reliable and the ability to use my duty mags in my back up gun. If you have small hands, the Glock 21 frame will seem large to you. I have small hands, but prefer a larger frame when using a round with heavy recoil. The Glock 21 fits my hand very well and is very comfortable to shoot. With the heavy recoil of the 45, I have no issues with fast follow up shots or double taps.
If you want a back up weapon that will accept your duty magazines, Glock makes the model 30. They will stick out some, but will function perfectly. If your main duty weapon fails, having a back up weapon that will use your duty magazines is very comforting.
Most agencies have gone to the 40 S&W or the 9mm for duty use but some of the most largest agencies carry the Glock 21. These are agencies that cover a large area and mainly work alone. That is something to be said about the Glock 21. If this is your first Glock or first 45 ACP, you will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CBJEEP Great Carry Pistol
I have had this pistol for appx 4 years now. I have fired over 500 rounds through it and have not had the first jam. This is a really great gun. I have my CCW and always keep this pistol on me. You can't beat a Glock or a .45 ACP. with a 13+1 capacity, you can shoot at the range for long periods of time with out having to reload a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HouHef I love this gun
This is literally the best gun I have ever used. Given the size of my hands (I generally wear a large to x-large glove) and the geometry of the grip, this gun is the perfect match for me. The grip actually holds onto your palm in a velcro-esque fashion, but does not hurt or "dig in". I currently use this gun in a vehicle defense and CQB role. The weight is perfect for my set up and is light and flickable. I am a larger framed guy (230lbs.), so recoil on any round is usually not an issue. However, with this gun being in the .45ACP cartridge I was skeptical of how it would handle this recoil. I totally miffed that one, it makes shooting the forty-five enjoyable. I can honestly say this is the smoothest shooting .45 I've ever used or tested. I've never had a misfeed or any other malfunction with this firearm(after 1300 rds.!) I absolutely love this gun. Glock has created a disciple out of me with this offering.
