Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for price. Good product, the only real complaint I had is that the flaps you open for the holes have to be restrained by a bungee, this can be annoying sometimes when trying to quickly set a hook as the flap hangs over the holes a little bit and you might hit the flap. Other than this, it's easy to set up, though I've been setting up huts for a LOOONG time, also stays pretty warm. February 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Frabill Refuge Ice Shelter Fairly compact and easy to setup. Not quite as quick as a hub, but with this one you get a bottom which can be advantageous sometimes. Never had a problem setting up as the other reviewer has, but I set up a lot of tents...with practice it takes less than a minute. The black color helps keep it warm without use of the heater. Two can easily fish inside and if you just want to cram people in to get warm four can stand up and warm up inside. My only gripe is the side that they put the pull rope on makes it so the access holes on the bottom can catch on deep snow and open or make it harder to pull, moving the rope fixed this. It's held up great and I leave it out on the big lake anchored down for days at a time, no problems. Great buy for the money, I love mine!! January 19, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by 3 Man Shanty Upgrade I purchased a Frabill Refuge last year for ice fishing in Central Ohio. I only used it a hand full of times and only had one of those blue suitcase shanties everyone has these days. I liked that I could fish 3 people in there although an intimate experience if all grown males. But really enjoy the room when comfortably fishing two people. This is the only suitcase style shanty that I have seen that offers floor openings on both sides of the shanty allowing you and you buddy to fish facing each other (one facing the front and one facing the rear of the shanty) allowing more room and more depth coverage in some instances. This packs up small enough to fit in a 4 door sedan and opens up large enough for a 6'2" man to stand straight up and still have room between the top of his head and the ceiling. The only disadvantage is a big on for me....the poles the are used to build the frame are many, pure metal and not very easy to get in place right away. Your hands end up very cold after handling the metal and get frustrated with the setup time. More peices = more opportunity for things to go wrong. Once up though it is roomer , offers more fishing positions and is darker than those blue shanties out there making sight fishing more of a possibility. Better quality parts (less oxidation) from what I can tell so far. December 18, 2011
