Bought this on sale mainly for deer and fish. Works somewhat on small pieces that don't compress but not good on large items. Unit does not pull all the air out which is the primary fuction and reason to buy.It did not pull all the air out on shoulders and hams leaving pockets of air here and there and forget ground meat unless you tight pack ever corner. Very disappointing. it did work somewhat reasonably well on small portions of backstap and tenderloin. Works better on fish but advise you pass on this unit. Spend the money for a better unit . This one is going back.Too bad they don't let you control the amount of vacuum time so you can work the air out, this unit shuts off too soon. I did not have any sealing problems even with the juice being pulled ot. Vacuum just not strong enough for game and large pieces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CookingMama I should have gotten this years ago
I could kick myself for waiting so long to get this. love it. A long time user shared his best ever tip. PRE-FREEZE. I cover a large tray with whatever I have on hand...wax paper, al. foil, freezer paper. Prepare items for foodsaver. Place on the tray. Put tray into freezer (lay flat of course). Allow liquid to freeze. (half hour for solids like meat, firm prepared foods, fruit should do it).
Then just follow the Food Saver instructions. This has worked for us with fruit, raw meat, cooked meat, and left overs. We also do liquids, just freeze those solid in a bowl and pop out to process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by TastySalmon Not a good buy
This was purchased as a replacement for another Foodsaver that lasted for several years and worked very well until the end. I wish I could say the same for this.
This sealer was junk out of the box. 90% of the packages I have "sealed" so far have failed. I'm still trying to figure out why they decided to call this the Game Saver. The word "game" and vacuum sealer together would seem to have annotations of speed, reliability and the ability to seal large amounts of meat quickly. This machine cannot do any of these things.
1.) If the item you intend to seal is wet in the slightest, the heat strip will not be able to seal the bag due to the water. I cannot stress this more. This defeats one of the advantages of vacuum sealing.
2.) This unit will not seal one-gallon bags, wet or dry.
3.) Your bag has to be positioned perfectly otherwise it will just suck air quickly and then seal, which you cannot seem to cancel (even though there's a cancel button).
4.) The process of locking bags down is cumbersome and if not done right will reposition or fold you bag. Full bags require 3 hands to position the bag and close the lid.
5.) (and most importantly) The bags that have sealed to the best of this machine's ability still have lots of air left in them and are not packed tightly at all. The suction seems to be on a timer and not a pressure sensor, which means that not nearly enough of the air on some bags will be pulled out if the packaging if the meat or fish is loose.
Spend a few extra dollars and buy something with more quality. After shipping, I came close to spending the same on much better models.
