Permanently mounted canoe roof racks are great if you always plan to use the same vehicle to portage your canoe. But if flexibility is on your ''must have in a canoe carrier'' checklist, the Foam Block Canoe Carrier may be the canoe carrying system for you. The four foam blocks fit snugly over your canoe's gunwale and won't scratch the roof of your vehicle. The foam block's non-skid bottoms hug your roof top, while the nylon strap secures the canoe to the top of your car. Use the four S-hooks and two 15' ropes to secure the canoe's bow and stern to your vehicle's frame or bumpers. Made in USA.

Well it seems I used it wrong as I used it with a basic roof rack (two cross bars) but it definitely made the canoe more secure. I'm a bit paranoid about canoes on vehicles as I've almost been hit by one, and more people lose their canoe from the top of the car than from capsizing or rocks. I was happy and comfortable with this product.

This is a great way to carry your canoe on a car. When not in use it stores away in the carry bag till next time. I dont use the ropes but bought two more of the straps to wrap around the roof and the seats of the canoe.

I bought this not really understanding what all I'd need to get the canoe to ride on my car. This kit contains most of what I needed, but It only has one cam style strap and at a minimum you'll probably want two to secure the boat across the hull. I went ahead and bought two ratcheting straps to replace the one cam strap that this comes with. The rope will be used as well as the S-hooks. However, I think that if you buy just the foam blocks at BPS and get a 50' section of rope to use and your own straps you can put together a better Kit for less than this one costs. It's not a horrible kit, it just needed better straps.
